Opinion: His vicious attacks on some of the current Australian team reek of a former player saying something outlandish to generate a headline; to remain as relevant in retirement as he was as a player, writes Andrew Webster

In December 1997, Shane Warne bounced into a media conference in Melbourne in great spirits. He was there to unveil a waxwork double of himself commissioned by the world-famous Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.

You can’t help but wonder how Warnie The Player would have handled Warnie The Talking Head? How would one of the most sensitive, self-absorbed sportspeople we’ve ever known handle the machine-gunning he gives Australian players at every opportunity? He’s also one of those former players, of any code, who doesn’t tip-toe a line of diplomacy so that nobody gets upset. But there’s a difference between brutal honesty and brutal nastiness.

Agree!! Oh and Mitchell Starc is overrated

Convicted drug cheat who took money from an Indian bookmaker has opinions about others.

So much for stopping victimisation on social media

I think the Germans would call Warnie a “rampensau”, a hog of the limelight.

We remember when he couldn’t stand the truth about something and blamed his mother

You just made him into a Headline. Mission accomplished.

Relevance Deprivation Syndrome?

It worked. You wrote about him.

Need more people to tell it the way it is and not hold back. May not have lost to India last summer if we cared less about hurting people’s feelings.

What complete rubbish. He is asked his opinion as a pundit, he gives it. Starc has been on a crap run. If you disagree with him, fair enough, but don't insinuate underhand intentions. It's the f-ing Ashes everyone has an opinion.

He holds petty grudges so you’ll probably find Mitchell Starc had a go at him for smoking in a non smoking area at the Allan Border medal night in 2013 or something like that, so since then it’s been ‘on’……..

Why I took my daughter to India for Schoolies'Let’s not kid ourselves schoolies has anything to do with a rite of passage. It looks back, not forward. We don’t have a coming-of-age rite of passage. You learn how to drive a car but not how to drive your life' | FIRST PERSON schoolies ... Having travelled there extensively myself I understand why the writer wanted to show India to his daughter but not sure why it was at the expense of schoolies. Kids want to let off steam and hang with their friends. A bit patronizing really. India will still be there next year Privileged aren’t you😎
