The family of an Aboriginal woman shot dead by police on a residential street in Western Australia's coastal Mid West region have demanded to know why officers did not instead deploy their Tasers

National Suicide Prevention and Trauma Recovery Project national co-ordinator Gerry Georgatos told AAP the organisation was supporting the family, including Ms Clarke's foster mother Anne Jones, who lives in Mullewa."The family is hurting and there's a lot of confusion about what has occurred.Mr Georgatos said he had heard Ms Clarke may have been armed with a knife, but police have not confirmed the report."I come running out looking, like 'what the hell?' ...

"I had my daughter on me and I went out there and I heard, 'she's been shot, ring the ambulance', so I just grabbed her and ran back inside. I was shocked. I was terrified. It was scary."The Police Internal Affairs Unit will conduct a separate inquiry, which is standard protocol. WA Police Union president Harry Arnott said the union was standing by its members involved in the"tragic incident" and would assist them through the internal investigation process.

"Our thoughts go out to the police officers involved and their families in this terrible circumstance," he said. The president and senior vice president are travelling to Geraldton to ensure the welfare of the officers involved.

Wrong question. Ask instead “why was the offender threatening police with a knife?” No knife. No need to defend with use of force.

Because they were threatened with a deadly weapon by a violent criminal !

Sounds just like good ol merica

Remove all side arms from police below the rank of Senior Sergeant. NOW. Enough of this murder in their ranks. This should apply to all Australian police forces. Gestapo has crept in , murder rampant. What mongrel introduced this USA style law enforcement?

Let me guess .. the cops were in fear of their lives

All the people writing about how they were just defending themselves, as if they had no other options. This man actually stabbed a police officer and was only tasered.

Exactly. Maybe 2.

Seems like we hear this a lot , a person takes no responsibility for their actions and we get to this.. sad yes but it’s not law that has to answer the question it’s how and why this person got to this state

I’d be demanding to know what they didn’t ask her nicely but firmly to stop threatening them with a knife.

Never bring a knife to a gun fight. RIP

Because they where probably concerned for their safety first and foremost when confronted by a manic person wielding a knife.

How does being a Yamatji woman make one in police eyes less than a person?

sounds like their lives were under threat

‘Man up’: why so few men report sexual abuse‘Jesus Christ, this is me’,” said Peter* the first time he saw a grown man speak of his sexual abuse. Not just with sexual abuse. All abuse. It took me ages to break the stigma of ‘man up’ before I came forward with what happened to me, by then the ptsd had set in. Hiding it to be ‘manly’ is just another pathetic social excuse forced on gender. 'masculine obsession with heterosexuality and independence' stops reporting of abuse. Even when men are victims, it's also men's fault. You can't help yourselves can you, SMH?
