Who are Extinction Rebellion and why are they blocking your commute to work?

Workers have been getting to work late because of protesters bearing an image of an hourglass in a circle. So what's it all about?

For some key figures in the movement, it's not just about climate change.

Stuart Basden, who describes himself as one of Extinction Rebellion's co-founders,

"XR isn't about the climate. You see, the climate's breakdown is a symptom of a toxic system that has infected the ways we relate to each other as humans and to all life. This was exacerbated when European 'civilisation' was spread around the globe through cruelty and violence [especially] over the last 600 years of colonialism, although the roots of the infections go much further back."

put them in jail... Because they would prefer a habitable planet. I stand with XR “Should you be allowed to break the law to 'save the planet'?” Asks the article. How to misunderstand everything about protest in one sentence. Answer. 1. Parasites. 2. See answer 1 And why is our ABC so intent on reporting the protests instead of the crisis the protests are about?

That is who they are Media should stop polarising this issue. Action on climate change should not be viewed in any way to be radical. We all sit on a spectrum when it comes to our views about preserving the environment. Microstory 910: BLOCKING indifference. BLOCKING complacency. BLOCKING greed. BLOCKING ignorance. BLOCKING selfishness. BLOCKING narcissism. BLOCKING the mental blockade.

They’re just environmentalists Malthusian doomsday cultists & because police are not enforcing the laws they are breaking. savedyouaclick

Climate activists use bikes to block morning trafficOne commuter said the ExtinctionRebellion traffic block on Hoddle St was frustrating, even though he supported climate action. 'Does it have to be at peak hour?' he asked. 'It makes me a little against the cause in a way.' 'Preventing human extinction is important, but not important enough to inconvenience me in the slightest' You can be against Extinction Rebellion actions but still support action on climate change. I think ER are ok with that. Don’t conflate anti ER with anti action on climate change. And the world was eternally grateful, as extinction was saved due to the galant efforts of thirty priveliged unemployed white people, stopping traffic with bicycles! How did we not think of this solution before

They’re nobody! If anything rent a crowd! They’re the same people who are in Socialist alliance. And to everyone telling them to go get jobs: 1 - plenty do, like the assistant school principal on the TV just then and 2 - you don't just 'go get a job' these days like it was for the sheltered boomers saying this - the neoLiberal Party have DESTROYED employment in this country

I'm glad they're blocking all the European-SUV-driving private-sector-suits driving to their banking jobs down Collins Street who think they're too good to take public transport like the rest of us (I work in the CBD). THAT I admire, bahahaha Who are they? They are the same people who turn up to every protest. They don't give a toss about the climate, they just like protesting.

Extinction Rebellion is the child of a group now effectively mothballed - 'Rising Up!'. Same people behind it, same ideology. It's all laid out... These are the same type of hard left communists and socialists as those who made up the nuclear disarmament movement. They gravitate to these issues in an attempt to be relevant. After a period of time they fade into history.

The motive behind is apparent; climate change is just a stratagem. Only the weak minds are used as a pawn who regard themselves as comic hero defending their planet Are they practicing what they are preaching? Or are they another blah blah blah group? Not all of them seem to be on the same page if you speak to them, which is a concern.

I don’t care. They are preventing my freedom and therefore are terrorists. Protest but don’t hijack.

Extinction Rebellion climate activists block city streets againOrganisers of the ExtinctionRebellion protes said about 45 people were arrested in Melbourne on Tuesday, including one of the Melbourne leaders, Reem Ramadan. Instead of attending the climate change action to scream, cause unnecessary disruption & blame governments, l planted 3 trees in my backyard yesterday & swept the footpath outside my house to clear it of the rubbish and butts others throw, so it doesn't end up in the waterways. klimateklowns Finely a death cult for atheist middle class drones.

This sums up the Eco-hypocrites. Australia: OHHH aren’t the Bushfires horrible, OOOH isn’t the drought awful? Oh no look at the rivers drying up. Also Australia: OUTRAGEOUS I am going to be 20 minutes late because people are protesting against climate change maybe should read this It is wrong to assume that they are coherent and any one thing, but the evidence as to who some of them really are shows it has has nothing directly to do with children's delusions of climate catastrophes. e.g. Dig and ye shall find, much more evidence.

Did have a little chuckle at this 😂 This is hard core socialism dressed up as a movement of 'concenrned citizens' & not much to do with the dynamics of CC at all. The goal is to destroy societal cohesion & cause as much upheaval as possible. ABC & msm continually soft-soap this BS to paint these people as heroic.

A bunch of arsehats and butt monkeys who most likely get arroused by knowing the media is giving them attention. They are puppets brainwashed by people who make mega dollars selling renewable power. Who are they? They are loonies! Why are they blocking the road?...because they are loonies. We know publicity feeds these movements so my question is, who in the ABC supports ER and why are they feeding them the notoriety crave? ItaButtrose

'Cable ties, street barricades and a $40 bike lock': Hong Kong demos inspire Extinction Rebellion's 'accessible' disruption Extinction Rebellion protesters are planning to copy civil disobedience tactics from the unrest in Hong Kong to try to disrupt Australian cities. Perfect for the office run (and back!) Protest has to hit without someone being on the receiving end. It’s about energy. Disrupting traffic, thus being directly responsible for increasing vehicle emissions and getting the public offside will definitely help the cause. 🤷‍♀️

Short answer: They’re not. Free plugs on the tax payer $! defund Do let us know when the climate school strikers grow into angry unemployed juveniles wont you? ABC Extinction sounds better. Have become the Far Lefts propagander pusher. Imagine all the ocean trash we could clean by defunding.

Extinction Rebellion: London's Westminster shut down by clime protests replicated around the worldLondon's parliamentary precinct has been shut down by Extinction Rebellion protesters who are gathering in cities across Europe to demand climate change action.

Thirty people arrested at environmental protest in Sydney CBDPolice took the Extinction Rebellion protesters into custody one-by-one as they staged a sit in on Broadway, near Railway Square in Ultimo, while onlookers cheered | natassiazc natassiazc Not sure this chap looks like dole bludger natassiazc You have to feel sorry for the cops. They are going to go down with the rest of us when climate change destroys the habitable world. natassiazc I would smash the shit out of them !!

Haunting pictures from mass protestsPowerful pictures have emerged of climate protesters from Extinction Rebellion (XR) blockading roads and holding mass demonstrations in London and across global cities on the first day of a two-week “rebellion” as they demand action on climate change. Water cannon and tear gas are all that is needed to curb these arseholes. I'm not fan of ICOs, some are OK but majority just take your money and run, free airdrop is the way to go, just like GetDeepOnion did $ONION
