While the United States is becoming more expensive, there could be bargains in Europe, South America and Japan.

The changing fortunes of the Australian dollar mean that while the United States is becoming more expensive, there could be bargains in Europe, South America and Japan for those planning an“Some currencies are likely to continue to fare worse than the Aussie over the next few months, particularly as Australia’s terms of trade remain very high, buoyed by high energy prices,” says AMP chief economist Shane Oliver.

These include the Japanese yen , the New Zealand dollar , the euro and the British pound , says Oliver. But there could be plenty of travel bargains in other popular tourist destinations as the Australian dollar has gained about 17.5 per cent against the Japanese yen over the past 12 months, 11 per cent against the British pound, 10 per cent against the New Zealand dollar and nearly 9 per cent against the euro, according to Sarah Megginson, a money expert at Finder, a comparison website.

Sri Lanka, where the local currency has slipped by about 70 per cent over the same period, could be a bargain for travellers prepared to brave the recent economic and political upheaval, adds Megginson.

Joe Biden responds to Vladimir Putin’s threatsUS President Joe Biden has called out several nations for nuclear activity and asked the United Nations General Assembly to recommit to the Non-Proliferation Treaty after threats from Vladimir Putin. Since Britain and the United States can not abide by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, why must China and Russia abide by it? Australia can obtain nuclear submarines, as can countries such as Iran and North Korea. Is it a threat to say you’ll defend yourself? “If the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, we will without doubt use all available means to protect Russia and our people”. How about committing to the complete denuclearization of the planet, meaning all nations including Israel commit to the complete abolishment of their respective nuclear weapon stockpiles. Nuclear technology should only be used for peaceful purposes.
