When the Green Wattle Creek fire burning south-west of Sydney came close enough to his home to singe the front fence, Oakdale man Pete Turner's response was to finally relax.as he took a brief break from assisting Rural Fire Service tree crews remove the massive blackened gums beyond his fence line.Credit:Living in the path of the growing blaze, he said he had been tormented by whether to go to work or stay to protect his property.
