Being on her feet all day and the heat of the packing shed can make for a challenging workplace, but Chloe has loved it. "It was exhausting work ... I mean, I'd be fine with it, if it was more pay, but we were kind of at a loss," he said. A display of sentiment watery excuses to not pay the most vulnerable inexperienced and unable to articulate a counter argument to accusations by practiced con artists for legitimate back breaking work. People are used abused and then dumped by crook business owners/slave drivers.

In other news,, supermarkets squeeze every single penny out of farmers because of their price wars which directly keeps wages down and immigration up,it also keeps wages well below the rate of inflation, unfortunately other bills go up, heating, electricity, gas etc, live to work

Done it 40 years ago picking beans .4 of us made $ 45 between us. 10 hour shift no water 30 degrees in the hills . Told them where to stick it ,went to pub and drank it in no time. One of these lads is a professor at a Sydney uni now.

Interesting reading, I've heard a lot about poor pay and conditions, I now see why Tasmanians are not willing to take these jobs. Good on you Chloe, for having a go.

Did i get it right: $450 for six 10 hour shifts? Is it... $7.5 per hour? Is it legal?

There is a voice missing in this story - if some local workers are getting a satisfactory job and wages where are they?

There is no labour shortage. There a wage expectation gap. Pay a living wage, people will work

“Work hard for a fair days” pay they say. Pay pickers less than $100 for a whole days’s work

They were paid so little it didn't even cover their meager accommodation. They really did have the fair dinkum backpacker experience.

This is why these jobs are generally done by hardy cook islanders and the likes, not soft bellied backpackers from London
