If Australia enters a full lockdown, confining most of us to our homes, how do supermarkets like Woolworths operate to get food to people?

Supermarket shelves across Australia were stripped bare by panic buyers in recent weeks. Picture: AAPPolice officers distributed toilet paper and paper towels at a Sydney supermarket earlier this month to calm panic buyers. Picture: StoryfulWoolworths chief executive officer Brad Banducci said it’s a scenario the company is living in right now across the ditch in New Zealand.

“We are an essential service and we will be operating under any scenario,” Mr Banducci said in an interview on“I would say to all of our customers, there is no need to surge stock up now. All surge demand does is cause a number of issues in our supply chain and it leads to the stock-outs.”Woolworths is hiring 20,000 new staff members, including home delivery workers.

Mr Banducci announced that Woolworths is urgently recruiting 20,000 new staff and one of the three major areas is home delivery.“We know that's the best way to keep the vulnerable customers safe and so we are working literally 24 hours a day to stand it back up. Woolies has reassured Australians that it’s an essential service and would continue to operate in the event of a total lockdown. Picture: AFPAnd Woolworths is looking at international examples where lockdowns have occurred or countries have restricted the movement of people in a bid to combat coronavirus.

It would have to be ordered online and home delivered only

Woolworths and Coles you must observe your clients on camera! Many customers are repeatedly buying the same products. Entering the store buying out more of one type of product repeatedly during the day. No wonder there's never anything on the shelves...

Newscom should be discounted by everyone as producing Fake and exaggerated news.

WW has home deliveries you will always be able to go for food medical, medicines.

This is just fear mongering by the media sensationalising a particular thing

Joe_Hildebrand this article hurts more than it helps.

What a stupid feckin headline, see what the rest of the world is doing Covid_19

FakeNews scaremongering

It's the thought that counts.

Haven't been any in my local for about aweek

Please don’t scare people into panic buying all weekend.

They should shut the supermarkets and only allow delivery to certain streets on certain days of the week. Keep the public out of them and only allow the workers in there. People place their orders a few days before delivery. God forbid I may be able to get a pack of toilet paper.

Why are people supporting a company that doesn't pay it's workers, and belongs to a company that owns the most poker machines in the country? It's time to shop local. These big companies are why we have not gone into lockdown to stop the virus from spreading

Go to Coles

What a dumbass question... CoronaLockdown covid19australia COVID

Like everywhere else does it. You only go out for groceries or medicine. Seriously, newscom have been more than abysmal in this pandemic.

You shop at Foodland that's how. local

Delivery

How does get people even more worried

You can still send 1 member to the shop for groceries. STOP making headlines like this. I can’t get basic food and essentials because of panic buying and headline like this that only scare and encourage such behaviour.

My friend just loss hours at woolworths and she said that many are losing hours and store closing earlier. This is BS that they are hiring people and if they are they must be giving minimal hours to them.

Supermarkets will NEVER close.

The supermarkets will stay open. They are an essential service.

Get these fuckers out of here

Uber

You mob are more dangerous than the virus itself

It's about time you started paying attention to reporting real news you clowns. More fearmongering 🙄

Just remember not everyone do onlineshopping not just the older generation internetbsnking a lot of people have to go to shops to do there shopping for different reasons, enough notice, stay in your area code something specific so everyone understands.

Delivery service to every household?

The current situation of Woolworths delivery service for the elderly got worst. They don't get the necessities. Mom didn't get the chicken, cat food, toilet paper, towel paper & tissue. All these items were scraped an hour before delivery. Ah.. they do message her about.

These shit stories cause panic buying 💩💩🤡🤡

If you bothered to watch the PM's address today (Which you probably did) you will knowhe said the term 'lockdown' was inaccurate and irresponsible for media outlets to characterize any future strategies as such. When do you plan to stop cadet 'journalists' posting your tripe

I guess that’s why people have been hoarding because a complete shutdown means everything is closed except hospitals

Stop the f**king scaremongering. Even in Italy the supermarkets are open as are the businesses that supply supermarkets, and you can go out to the supermarket once a week.

The supermarkets have been making enormous profits over many years “ so they should employ those young people who lost there jobs and start home delivery’s to the elderly and as many Australians as possible they can afford to run a nonprofit for as long as it takes .

They hire an army of delivery people - jobs for casuals currently affected by Covid-19 measures?

sometimes I think is run by 5 year olds who have no idea

What a stupid over dramatic question to keep people in panic mode ..... media grubs at there best

What a bullshit title to get clicks, should be ashamed

Its 2020 & world is now a totalitarian dystopia.... Covid pandemic is another big event like 9/11, and as 9/11 there are way too many details that doesn't make any sense & too many unanswered questions.

Does scaremongering ever go out of fashion?

A misleading first few words. SOME medicos want a so-called 'lockdown.' OTHERS, including some highly qualified individuals, such as one in News Ltd's australian today, argue against. Our PM ScottMorrisonMP makes the point any 'stage 3' may vary between states. auspol

Australia may be able to avoid a full lockdownA new map shows Australia is behind many other countries in our measures to tackle coronavirus but as calls for the country to be locked down grow, what do we really know about what a full shutdown means? Coronavirus Yes please lock us down, take our jobs, repossess our cars, houses and all Mobile phones etc. And then hit us hard with a mandatory vaccine. Pretty please! Do these 'experts' look around them. The city is quiet. It's the Government that is making the errors (cruise ship and airport today). On the whole, I think Australians are doing a good job. I still do not get why some call it a full lockdown. Supermarkets, banks, GPs, chemists, petrol & couriers will still be open. A full lock down is nothing is open, no one can leave home. Food, medicine, doctors are all brought to you. Obviously that would not work in Aust.

USA has now overtaken China with the most COVID-19 cases. This is not ‘news’. It is ‘olds’. Don’t remember how many times I read the similar headline: premiers want to go tough, next day PM doesn’t want to go tough. Premiers want schools closed, next day PM doesn’t want schools to shut....Arrrrrhhhhhh Listen to the medical and infectious disease experts stubborn governments. Act NOW not later. Let’s not having to utilise ‘makeshift’ hospitals in NSW.

Senator Jacqui Lambie ‘begging’ for lockdown of AustraliaSenator Jacqui Lambie has pleaded with PM Scott Morrison to lock the country down before the weekend to defeat the virus “in one swift kick”. She will back down if they offer her a new bridge in Tassie. The challenge is that the Chief Medical Officer and the Advisory Committee do not believe that it can be defeated in one 'swift' kick. They believe (presumably on good evidence and expertise that exceeds mine and Jacqui's) that it will take much longer. She wants to destroy the economy!
