Victoria’s lockdown-battered gym owners have missed out on their traditional boom because the Omicron-driven spike in coronavirus cases has kept would-be customers from fulfilling their New Year’s resolutions to get fitter and healthier.

But gym attendance started dropping off a few weeks ago, and Mr Crivelli says the decline is linked directly to skyrocketing COVID numbers. Another reason gym attendance is down and membership suspensions are up, according to Mr Crivelli, is the massive increase in people catching the virus and being forced into isolation.“We’re getting a lot more suspensions now because obviously more and more members are testing positive or their partners are positive,” he said.

Jodi Gibney and her husband, who live in Melbourne’s north-east, were among those to rush back to the gym as soon as the doors opened after the last lockdown.

Who goes to the gym ? 🤔 it's summer nothing like a backyard hot yoga

😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹

Really don't need gyms full of people transmitting CoViD.

My gym hasn’t suspended the monthly fee I’m charged, but there’s no way in hell I’m going in those virus traps. They’re getting my money for nothing. Wtf are they bitching about?! 🤯🤦🏻‍♀️

'Wrapping your arms' around gym owners, who desperately wanted to open up, then became listed daily as hotspots, and are now (SHOCK) suffering because omicron. The Age, you really need to re-assess what you think is 'wrapping your arms around Victoria'.

They were screaming to open up, no masks they said, just let it rip, we need the money. 0 sympathy.

Wonder why gym owners were under the impression that letting the virus rip would be good for business?

If anyone knows a gym taking airborne spread seriously please tag them as I’ll join. Sick of mine sooking and not acting proactively

Open up, open up, lockdowns are killing our businesses ….NOOOOOOOOO NOT LIKE THAT 🙄🙄🙄

Journos know jacksht! I’m over their antagonistic ways 😡 just wish I was a genie 🧞‍♀️ I know what I’d wish for!

I wont go to a gym full stop. Same as I wouldn’t go to any venue indoors where people are expelling breath at a greater rate or where ventilation may not be adequate.

The gym my daughter goes to opened another business during the pandemic. Why? Because since the pandemic started they have followed every restriction and put in every safety measure they could . People trust them to keep them safe... can't say the same for many other gyms.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CAFE OWNERS, THE FLORISTS, THE WEDDING PLANNERS, THE WELLNESS INDUSTY MORONS? WHY DON'T WE EVER HEAR FROM THEM WE NEVER DO!

literally everyone saw this coming ..

They are suffering from natural consequences

The constantly paraded gym owners who complained about Lockdown again complaining about their desired path of LetItRip My sympathy has No bounds.

Jesus Christ, how much do dumbbells and joggers cost?

A blind determination to open up international travel and a lack of ability to establish effective quarantine sold us all out. Small business did not think this one through, just crowed 'free enterprise' from habit.

Businesses wanted everything opened up, but now they’re surprised about an outbreak forcing people to reconsider their personal health?

Killing small business.... Let's wait when all Woolworth and Coles introduced gym's and cafes... They both conveniently introduced home delivery as some unforeseen event would require getting food to people?

Public interest journalism from again... Sarcasm

Same ground of people that claimed if you went to the gym, you wouldn’t catch COVID, because you were in good shape?

Latest resolve poll has Morrison sliding, but people saying they don’t hear about Albanese and ALP policy. While I’d settle for my arthritic old Heeler over current PM, I wonder if it’s because MSM avoid giving coverage to Albo to protect Morrison. Drivel like this suggests so.

This is ‘sushi train’ journalism - the story comes around the first time as gym owners hate lockdowns. Next time it is gym owners rejoice lockdown is over. Now it is gym owners missing out because people are being cautious. Round and round and round.

🎻 Life goes on without gyms. A vanity based industry where the finance companies make a fortune.

Oh poor gym owners. They wanted to open up and live with Covid!!!!

Gym owners whinging again - who cares

IT'S A COLD, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE
