Adolescents have become the subject of criticism during the coronavirus shutdown for reportedly disobeying social distancing rules, and putting themselves, and others at risk.

"We know during this time of adolescence that there is a greater increase in risky behaviours: more drinking, smoking, engaging in more negative behaviours. He's one of many young people who have expressed frustration at the recent nation-wide shutdown, which stops them from visiting pubs, bars and sporting events, or even gathering with their friends at home."Honestly, we will definitely be going out and doing something, there's no way we'd be able to sit inside for three months,” he said.

SBS News spoke to one hostel manager, who asked to remain anonymous, who said there's only so much they can do when it comes to young travellers. While most travellers have gone home, he said many others are now staying long term because they are stuck in the country. The hostel manager said people should look more kindly on the industry, given the complexity of the situation.

A lot of people in my (27) age bracket are also introverted as hell and don't go out much anyway.

No respect, no regard for others, selfish, soft ,no life skills, me me me, unfortunately its there parents fault. Family values zip, emphatic zip, its all about me. They are in for a big shock after the Virus issue settles..... .

🦠🇦🇺🧻🧻🌊

Boo hooo...... life is so tough.... That's one of the biggest problems Australia faces. The younger generation have never seen hard times, never had to sacrifice, never had to contribute to their country, and have so far got away with been selfish. For many, Its all about them !

They are almost as bad as boomers are with climate change

FINE EVERYONE OF THEM THE FULL PENALTY 11K

Good luck sustaining this lockdown long term. It's going to get messy.

Some of my colleagues have witnessed a large number of older people crowding Hornsby Westfield on the pre-tense that it isn't actually that serious in accordance with Alan Jones' beliefs. So, maybe there needs to be further education for that age group too?

Kids don't listen to their parents, what makes the government think they will listen. Dish out those fines 😂😂

Young people don't subscribe to all the virus response bullshit, bungled opportunities to stop Wuhan flights and cruise ships, late protection of the venerable, now tough talk by pollies so may as well go party or the beach given the death of our economy and hardship everywhere.

Fine them every day with increasing penalties until they use their brain. They don't understand that if they infect other people there will be no beds for them if they need to go to hospital for any reason. Idiotic

When the boomers wouldn’t do anything to help fix the plant, no problem. But when there’s a virus that kill mainly old people we have to shut the whole world down

I thought that generation only connected through their phones? If the virus was connected through social media; well that would be catastrophic for them.

You see them out doing the wrong thing - you give them a warning - tag them, they do it again reduce their benefits, third offence - you take their gov aid/benefits

Entitled assholes.

'isolation is particularly difficult for this age group, as they crave social interaction'

Is there any surprise?

NO! Let's give 16yo the vote and allow them to shut down the joint every Friday! We are all Extinct anyway. 🖕🖕🖕

Neversaurus Live fast die young and have a beautiful corpse COVID19Aus COVIDIOTS

When growing up, if children do not respect their parents, teachers, school, would they respect if anything the government says, I do not think so.

Who bought their surfboard

Shank them

This is true. Almost everyone I've seen not social distancing are young.

You can't blame them... we are emotional beings. Some folks can't stand being stuck indoors.

They are to young to listen to Public Enemy No 1.

Lock them up

inzecto_urbano

That's why they are called the 'Me Generation'

Send police with flamethrowers. Until every level of government treats this as serious as it is, this will happen.

You know what, let them but take away their medicare card and exclude them feom any benefits. Hit them hard where it will hurt and they may think twice. Then stick to it. Make the rules a condition like many others you have for the rest of us. And start reporting on young deaths!

The virus has also killed younger, fit and healthy people around the world. It's very foolish to assume you are immune because no one is immune.

Oh for god’s sake.

'Disobeying social distancing rules' = Nazi talk.

Just start issuing $1000 PIN's, they'll start to pay attention then.

Thing is we need to get across that they will be paying for this in the long haul and it could hamper their pensions and benefits. They really need to understand this is no game when it comes to finances. They Laugh now but they cry later as we all do. we all think we know it all

Many young Australians in close proximity to others at the moment...working behind counters at supermarkets and other shops. Heroes. Respect and thank them.

Because they are young and Australian 🤣

Did you ask the well-to-do older Aspen couple who went and played golf after testing positive what they thought? Also, try the call back lines - they are filled with septuagenarians proudly flipping the bird at the restrictions.

Sorry, but they can hardly disrespect the sociopathic narcissists ruining opps, sorry, running this nation. Let's start with spudhead, who's conveniently gone to ground and refuses to front up of 3 cruise ship debacles. Don't even get me started on' Moses'. They have no future.

I have mostly noticed over 70s in my travels. But could be a geographic thing

Surprised at how many elderly are out and about as well.

Silly fools, they are the ones that will pay for all the spending and handouts.

Could this be part of the price you pay when people have lost respect for their “leaders” and institutions? Fed up with the endless spin and duplicity they have switched off and now, when we need them to listen, they couldn’t care less. Whi is at fault here?

Idiots are responsible for making a pandemic worse

Send them to China

All they have to do is do is WHAT THEY’RE FCUKING TOLD. Generations before had to go to world wars and many never returned! These kids have NEVER HAD IT SO EASY!

That’s the reason we cannot flatten the curve.

The young unemployed are completely disregarded by this Govt.Centrelink, jobseekers etc are marketing names to try and call down everyone. You cannot survive on it. Childcare give away is only for people employed. This is not a marketing exercise for PM it is for real🇦🇺

They are young, what do you expect

If your worried you ll get something, stay home. Only a moron would believe every person needs to stay out of the public domain, which is a free space regardless if the parliament says otherwise.

Do what is happening in the Phillipines, anyone on the street to be shot dead. Soon fixed the problem

Ah the drongo bogan generation 🤷‍♂️

Its all old ones as well. Its a social occasion on the special shopping days.

Take them to the morgue and let them sit and contemplate their priorities.

Contrast: covid19 - people most at risk - old people - response - SHUT IT ALL DOWN NOW! climate change - people most at risk - young people - response - meh.

Disobeying social distancing rules sounds like a line straight from China or the Middle East. oh the joys of another bloody gift to the world from China Maybe the can eat some more wild crap & see what else they can conjure up, then lie & spread it

Went from anxiety about 'existential crises' to actively egging them on really quickly eh. It's almost like they just do what adults don't want them to do

Absolutely!!! Seen it SO MUCH.... And not just in younger? But ppl my age (40s) even, who should KNOW BETTER..... I just get the feeling there's no trust out there in pollies. Ppl have become jaded and HIGHLY skeptical. Maybe poor education. Maybe poor discipline. auspol

Nice way to tar them with the same brush

Just like the ones that gripe and wine about global warming but consume and waist like there's no tomorrow.

Ignorance, but mostly selfishness. Lock them up and remove their financial assistance.

Typical

Ummm has anyone been down to Bunnings to which generation is flaunting the social distancing rules?

Nothing has changed. The young are always bullet proof. Majority of younger generations will be able to fight COVID-19 without any problems. However, they are ideal virus 'spreaders' placing our vulnerable at greater risk and ensuring a long, slow fight with a larger death toll.

What is the point of stopping someone go surfing? Fishing is ok. Golf is ok. But sitting under a tree by yourself in a park isn’t. WTF

Jail them!

Bullet proof. Weren't we all at their age?

This generation of youngsters is an entitled lot. They hv taken too much for granted, selfish & irresponsible - failings in life. Hopefully, this crisis can wake them up. Australia should make them do National Service like in Singapore and Israel to do service to the nation.

I mean, you could just group call your friends like the rest us. I'm still socialising, just from a distance.

Hard to blame them. 6 months is a lifetime at that age. Rather than being arseholes about it.... ....we, the ones who have lived passed that age, need to assist them more. As serious as this time is, don't lose your shit over every comment. Aim it at the Leaders. Not the young.

PROSECUTE THE FUCKERS,,, NOW

School kids in groups in parks and shopping centres during normal “school hours”. School was a “Petrie dish” of infection that journalist said but it’s OK for them to be wandering around in packs out of school

Well I guess they are contributing to herd immunity here.

This is what happens when you remove discipline from schools. These kids have been taught to disrepect authority, what makes us think that they will respect it now?

I suspect a lot of them do not follow msm. If it's not on their phone they don't care / know.

Maybe because

Australian youth acting like entitled, selfish little shits with no respect for those around them or the law? I would never have guessed that would happen.

‘Un-Australian’ side effect of virusThere are few character traits that Aussies despise more than dobbing. But as coronavirus spreads, should snitches be hailed as heroes? Sorry, I think spitting should take first place. Something you'd expect in Wuhan frankly. I’d be quite happy to snitch - I value my life and my family’s No, unless you're snitching on people who aren't Australian, then go for it.
