A new farm work visa will be offered to residents from 10 South-East Asian countries to help Australian farmers harvest their crops, but the nation's peak farm lobby insists it will only believe it when it sees it.

"We have a strong commitment from the Prime Minister, we made it clear when I negotiated this … this is a line we couldn't cross if we were to try and trade away seasonal workers at a time of shortage, it just didn't make sense.

The farmers have every reason not to believe a word the smug PM says. They’ve had to kick & fight for every small gain.

ag visas are akin to slave labour.

Will the farmers be expected to pay these workers?

Because its a free kick to a specific sector and shouldn't occur.

Morrison consistently promises and never delivers, yet the majority of posters here are backlashing against the farmers. I guess this indicates that we expect more from farmers but not from the PM

cheap labor from Asia would abscond so we would get migration problem like Mexico/US border WHY dont you pay decent award pay on local labor instead of exploiting backpackers

After emasculating the Australian unions the conservatives are unable to prevent exploitation of workers or even arrange for labour supply of workers prepared to be exploited.

Given the evidence of exploitation of workers in the ag sector, what is the government going to do to ensure these workers are compensated at a fair wage and have access to report grievances. Maybe they could set up another hotline!

True.. it’s another dirty spin from the Scumumatketing. Absolutely they should not fall into it.

Pay wages properly and locals will apply.

I'm sure they will all be paid proper wages and not exploited

He will hopefully

These farmers need to pay white Australian not import scabs

Biden promises to press Putin on election interference in face-to-face meeting | Sky News AustraliaUS President Joe Biden is in Brussels ahead of meetings with NATO leaders and all eyes are focused on his first face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. \n\nThe meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday in Geneva and comes after the two presidents exchanged harsh words in March with Mr Biden saying Mr Putin was a “killer” with “no soul”.\n\nThe Russian president replied directly to Mr Biden’s comment and said, “it takes one to know one”. \n\nThe heated exchange is part of what the Biden administration has claimed is a realignment of its Russia policy following the release of an intelligence report which confirmed Mr Putin directly authorised interference in the 2020 presidential election. \n\nPresident Biden said he is “not looking for conflict” but he plans to confront President Putin on the interference and several other issues.\n I wonder if he will sleep through it. A lot of anti-Biden tweets but seriously, remember when moron trump 'met' Putin? 2 hour meeting, behind closed doors, interpreter notes destroyed, then moron trump presser praising Vlad and accusing his OWN intelligence of lying about his overlord! You can't make this stuff up! putin will eat old man alive.. watch out JoeBiden nightmares are coming, you will meet proper leader.
