by the Australian Meat Processor Corporation put the percentage of the workforce on casual contracts at 20 per cent, with no sick leave benefits and the ability to be sacked "on any given day part-way through a shift". The rest were "daily hires", able to be sacked with a day's notice.suggest industry employment practices have not improved since then.
These conditions were well-documented and understood. This current crisis should have been foreseeable, even allowing for the Omicron variant.
But, but, exports are booming
No lamb? No lamb ad?
If no lamb, cancel Aust Day
Really? Please check - this Australia Day meat shortage is obviously not a National issue but you keep repeating the same report. Have you be listening to JEChalmers and AlboMP again?
Win- win situation for the animals!
Put a prawn on the barbie
What’s the drama? There are plenty of healthy alternatives.
I didn’t realise the ABC was so perfect
Are you serious, this is a problem…? Fauci…? Ukraine…? RAT mismanagement…? Covid mismanagement…? Distraction…? The worlds a hypocritical mess due to arrogance but you want meat on that day and can’t get it…? Australia is a mess/you’re pathetic; eat an apple and grow up…
Would you eat chicken handled by people who haven't fulfilled quarantine protocols because some idralogues have fecked up on let it rip?
My son in law is a butcher, absolutely flat out, only thing they are short of is time, meat not a problem.
The independent grocers like IGA,Drakes and Spar do not have the problems of the big chains, they can still provide all products, even toilet paper.
Don't eat meat but honestly, this is not a problem to focus on right now. Invasion Day BBQs!? Do better.
Butchers shops don’t have large supply chains, supermarkets shot themselves in the foot when they removed their in house butchers. They rely on outsiders to cut and package the meat. Not a smart decision. Supermarkets not run by smart people, only concern is costs.
Eat your vegetables!
GIVE PEOPLE THEIR JOBS BACK
Yeah.. least of our problems
yeah it’s preventable,,, by just not eating meat ?
'...governments should have seen COVID-19 meat supply crisis coming, and done something...' 🤨 Well, yes, they DID... by hoarding 20+ million RATs that were set aside for school children for February, blithely ignoring the real shortage of RATs for frontline workers everwhere...
😡
Ema Moolchand and Shelley Marshall don't mention all the plants forced MandatoryVaccination which FAILS to prevent Infection, Transmission of covidnsw. Not isolating contacts and sending infected back to work is Madness It is superspreader action that should face prosecution.
I'm not vegetarian by a long stretch, but there are plenty of good things to eat that aren't meat. I'm sure we'll manage.
Yeah stop unbridled capitalism ..
Looks like I'll lamb alone.
Not an opinion, unionist propaganda. Yes. Preventable, but not what you think. Next time get an expert that actually knows.
A perfect time to readjust and become vegetarian
Thanks covid 19, now how am I going to survive 🤔
Probably very appropriate that Australia Day is about eating dead body parts.
