Queensland Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington says the state's unemployment rate was the highest in the nation for four consecutive years before the pandemic hit. Is she correct? RMIT ABC Fact Check investigates.

, Dean of the Griffith Business School, all told Fact Check that calculating yearly averages from the trend data was an appropriate way to assess Ms Frecklington's claim.

On calendar years, in 2019 Queensland's average monthly unemployment rate was 6.2 per cent while Tasmania's was 6.3 per cent. In 2018 Western Australia recorded the highest average in the nation and in 2017 it was South Australia . In 2016 both South Australia and Tasmania topped Queensland and Western Australia matched it.

Calculating the average unemployment rate for the year to March as well as the preceding three years also fails to confirm Ms Frecklington's claim.

Good to see Fact check is still continuing at our ABC

I tweeted yesterday...people who make their living in public life, vis public servants, politicians, journalists, et al must be accountable at law for telling lies. Fines, banning them from their job, in the end jail. Only then will alternative facts and fake news be outlawed

😏👇🏻

You must be very concerned for you mate Palachook to be putting this up. :)

Unfortunately ABC NEWS is just bias so why would anyone take any notice of your so called fact check.. have you ever challenged anything that Annastacia has said?

“Wrong” is the right word on so many levels!

I bet plenty of people believe her and no amount of fact checking will change their minds.

How very Trumpian of the LNP and Clive Palmer to just lie through their teeth. We deserve better than this from our politicians.

Who would have guessed?

Deb the Freckle is a wrong'un. 🤪

Scomo taught his little apprentice well. Her speech yesterday was quite funny. She isn’t winning any awards soon that’s for sure.

Hey I’ve fact-checked every mainstream economist’s, every journalist’s, every politician’s, advocacy of endless growth. Here’s what I’ve found: WRONG Even green growth is a LIE.

Do this more please. All the time. For every politician.

Journalists interviewing politicians and CEOs should ask two basic Questions. Q1-do you have the evidence and if so, what is it? Q2-If it is estimate, then what is your modelling for forecasting such figures or data? Scomo is very good at sophistry of words with no evidence.

Yawn.....Qld just need to dititch the socialist Labor witch

How about you fact check Dan Andrews in relation to his many statements about Hotel Quarantine? That’s right he can’t recall anything so nothing to see there our ABC!

I am fed up with ABC and RMIT’s political bias, and their cherry-picking of what to “fact check”. Maybe somebody should fact check how many times they’ve “fact checked” the ABC or the ALP? These articles would be a joke if they didn’t seek to influence elections..!

Wow. Good image. The radar however shows more of a 200km long rain band of light to moderate rainfall and areas of heavier stuff. Not your typical storm front.
