Health Minister Martin Foley said only 62 of the 535 new COVID-19 cases had been linked and total active cases had risen to 4,974.He confirmed a high number of cases among younger people under the age of 50 with 77 per cent of Saturday’s new infections aged between one and 49.
The number of people admitted to hospital with the virus sits at 207, with 56 patients in the ICU and 40 people are on a ventilator. More than 85 per cent of the people in hospital have not received a vaccine. Earlier this week Premier Daniel Andrews announced the return of some freedoms to residents of Melbourne and Ballarat on Friday at 11:59pm.
Mr Foley said high testing numbers and rising vaccination rates had allowed the Andrews government to ease COVID-19 measures.Reported yesterday: 535 new local cases and 0 cases acquired overseas.
