EXCLUSIVE: NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has unleashed an extraordinary attack on Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack blaming him for his decision not to run for a federal seat in Eden Monaro.

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell has obtained an explosive text exchange between the two men in which Mr Barilaro says McCormack was “threatened” by his plans to run. “Don’t hide behind the “members will choose the candidate’ rubbish, as you were the only one saying such lines,” Mr Barilaro wrote in the leaked messages. “Don’t you think my branches would have backed me in? “To feel threatened by me clearly shows you have failed your team and failed as a leader.

“The Nats had a chance to create history, to change momentum, and you had a candidate that was prepared to risk everything to make it happen. “What did you risk? Nothing. “Hope you are proud of yourself.” The revelations will rock an already unstable McCormack Nationals leadership which was the subject of an unsuccessful challenge by former leader Barnaby Joyce. Mr McCormack told Sky News he had “never done anything but provide support” to Mr Barilaro.

ljayes A truly exciting day for the deputy PM, will never see the line light like this again I reckon.

Could politics in australia be any more pathetic & can the right wing be any more criminal, irrelevant or narcissistic? I very much doubt it? auspol corruption

I love it when the country boys start fighting...

Does it matter who the leader of the Nat's is? They're there to make up the numbers for the Libs, that's it. Forever.

Sit down Johnny. No one cares right now 🤨

Team Australia

What you like Barnaby the beetrooter

Well you should have stay in the race don't blame any one it was your choice to leave no one but you....

Extraordinary? The Coalition fight like cats & dogs amongst themselves on a near daily basis, public largely don't seem to care though

Johno Baraloro , is a gunner, gunner rip up , Murry Darling Policy, x10 Gunner take on Red Cross to task X11 times .. Going to run for Federal Politic X 5 times.. I'd Westminster System Johno Baraloro MP just a media 20 minute dribbler dribble stopper..

Yet another example of the lunacy and selfishness of NSW Nats.

So basically he is saying it IS ALL about his ego!!! Trying to damage McCormack has completely backfired

Blame Labor..

Loving the lose canon that Barilaro is! He would have very entertaining in the federal National Party room.

But just quickly......WGAF!!

JohnBarilaroMP Would you really want to sit in the same federal party room as him?

Quite a dummy spit by Barilaro. Didn't get the armchair ride he thought he was entitled to so he threw all of his toys out of the cot. Doesn't seem much like a team player to me. In contrast Andrew Constance is showing nothing but class.

M_McCormackMP is such an empty suit and Mr Vanilla he wouldn’t back JohnBarilaroMP for fear he’d win and eventually punt him as leader. Barilaro is full of naked ambition. It’s all about them, not the voters. auspoI

Nothing better than middle aged white men having a spat

Both JohnBarilaroMP and M_McCormackMP deny they’re the leakers of the text exchange. Michael McCormack has flat out denied it, telling me “that’s not what I’m about. I would swear on the bible it wasn’t me” The mystery deepens 👀 aclennell

McCormack id a DUD

He had to come up with an excuse. Set the record straight. They are both duds and Barilaro would of been flogged by KristyMcBain auspol

aclennell So was he lying when he said it was all about his Family? Yes he must have been

Dumb and dumber.

JaneMarwick We knew something wasn’t right with JB’s decision!

So much for it not being about ego

Yep they are going to run a loser instead.

How's the sense of entitlement. Typical conservative Auspol

'Branches get to decide'. Well they do after the faceless men have removed all but their back room favourite from the contest. Every party is up for this now and it stinks worse than 2nd hand gym shoes. auspol

Houghtontweets MandarinMcCormack strikes again.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂

Narcissism games.

ding ding it is on.. Matt Canavan & BJ for leadership..

White Anglo Saxon Australian males. Filled with hatred.
