Opinion: Waiting for COVID: One family’s symptomatic odyssey

This week, my husband Keith went down with a lurgy. I wasn’t feeling too hot either, having got my first period after four months. The joys of pandemic perimenopause! This had given me what they call an “estrogen headache”. Or was it COVID-19? There were no RATs to be found, so we planned a drive-thru PCR in the morning. Family day out, 2022-style.Keith was absolutely wiped.

An impressively short time later, our PCR results returned: negative, all five of us. I tried to take comfort in this, but stories filtered through the neighbourhood of false negatives and true COVID, my headache still beat a bass pulse in my forehead, and Keith was still sick. Retest? What are the rules? How should we be good citizens in this moment? Is it time to eat the emergency COVID-19 chicken soup or not? And why are the insects out to get us?

Western Australia records 24 new COVID-19 cases, including one mystery infectionPremier Mark McGowan said the new infections highlighted the need for Western Australians to take the virus seriously, with further outbreaks inevitable. 9News McGowan doesn't appear to be interested in logic, reason or fairness, only power, control & maintaining his majority. Still requiring triple vaxxed returning overseas Citizens to 14 days quarantine (7 in Gov hotel at own expense) demonstrates an authoritarian regime! Maybe they should be taking opening up when they promised seriously Pity the ALP in WA has so underfunded health care, that it can't even operate properly under normal circumstances, much less in an emergency. Of course, the duplicitous McGowan, Dictator & Emperor for Life, with try to blame the Feds.
