An agreement between two of Western Australia's recycling processors collapses, putting thousands of tonnes of material at risk of being diverted to landfill.

"We put forward our terms and conditions and we had a number of discussions with Cleanaway on them and their position was they weren't prepared to agree to those terms and conditions.

"We then advised them that after a period of three weeks we wouldn't be able to receive their material without a signed long-term agreement.Councils can deliver direct to SMRC The councils which had been sending recycling to the SMRC facility in Canning Vale — via Cleanaway — up until January 24 were the City of Swan, City of Bayswater, City of Mandurah, City of Subiaco, City of South Perth, Town of Vincent and Town of Victoria Park.

It is unclear what arrangements these councils have made for their recycling material, but Mr Doherty said some of the individual councils were now delivering their recycling directly to the SMRC facility."Both Cleanaway customers, and other local authorities that may have been affected, we have continued to provide a service for some of those councils and we're in discussions with other councils to meet their requirements.

It's disgusting and just another clear indication of the lack of leadership and couldn't care less attitude from politicians and councils.

No surprise hear the system has been a sham from the start, just a means to make money form taxpayers under the guise of doing good, there appears to be many of these kinds of facades 🤔auspol recycling

Recyclanble material (cans, glass etc) does not break down as food scraps do. It should be recycled.

Victoria has been dumping theres for over two years now, while pocketing hundreds of Million$ in savings from Vic taxpayers.

This isn’t about recycling. This is about 1 company trying to heavy another into accepting a low ball bid to use its facilities. “The company wanted to use all remaining recycling capacity in Perth”... but refused to agree on the price They call it competition for a reason

and this is when sitting governments should be removed from office and loose their super in fines

WA has no idea how to recycle . Putting different colours of glass and paper in the same bin then tipping in to a bin truck is not the way to do it . Pease have a look at Europe and how they do the collection of domestic recycled materials

you turkeys have not got it yet, have you?

😡😡🤬

Victoria will get cash-for-cans, container deposit schemeA cash-for-cans and bottles scheme to combat Victoria’s recycling and waste crisis will be introduced by the state government. Good luck Victoria. The program is a scam That's a problem for genuine people with genuine codes for scanning..but the recyclables still go into the system..payouts maybe a problem! Used to be one years ago and as a kid, made good pocket money out of it until it got scrapped. Bummer waiting 3 more years though for this to come online though.
