NSW police have launched an internal investigation into the arrest of an Indigenous teenager in Sydney after a widely-circulated video appeared to show an officer slamming the 17-year-old boy into the ground.
In a statement to SBS News, a spokesperson for NSW Police said the 17-year-old boy threatened an officer before being arrested and taken to Surry Hills police station. “ doing nothing just being boys hanging out with each other, when police arrest him for no reason at all, he was taken to the police station and down to the holding cells,” they said.“As a result of his arrest he has been transferred by ambulance to St Vincent’s Hospital. I have just come from the hospital and he is awaiting X-rays as I speak, but also sustained a bruised shoulder, cuts & grazing to his knee, face & elbow & chipped teeth.

I feel some people are missing the point. Mistreatment of aboriginal people by police is nothing new. Yes, the kid was being a bit mouthy, but the point is that throwing him on the concrete face first just to put cuffs on is excessive force. Case in point.

It's clearly a case of excessive force, it certainly wasn't necessary.. as for racism .. not too sure about that.. lm under the impression the cop would of slammed that kid regardless of what color skin he may have.

Disgraceful. Just as we thought that this issue is far from us. Two weeks ago police officers pulled children out of their parents' hands mercilessly because they were protesting in Vic. The matter was swept under the carpet. I hope this time police will be held accountable.
