Victoria will ban certain single-use plastics by 2023 in a bid to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
Environment Minister Lily D'Ambrosio said the government was focusing on those particular single-use items because there were alternatives available."We believe that these are the easiest items that have substitutes available right now."
What about plastic coffee cup lids? clear plastic drink cups and take away food containers? 600ml soft drink/water bottles? these are by far the things I see littered the most because people don't want the mess in their cars

Banned in parts of Philippines for several years. Fast food restaurants provide metal cutlery for eat in. Bamboo straws, forks & spoons are the go everywhere & places sell metal straw packs you can carry on your bag, both fat & thin and a straw cleaner. Takes 2 years in Vic?
Ever try to eat a steak on a paper plate and wooden cutlery at a BBQ? Doesn't work. Ever tried to drink a frozen coke with a paper straw? Doesn't work.

Qld doesn't have them now. I have SS straws, coffee houses offer paper or long term plastic. Take away has these & recyclable containers.... Paper bags are recyclable, used for garbage or the kids can wear them as masks. Dumping plastics opens the world.

We buy plastic straws now & keep them in the truck & at home. Knife & forks are all good, but the straws are crap!

The plastic cutlery are not just single-use items. I send them to school with my autistic son, to avoid losing silverware. They go in the dishwasher and can last for ages. The only time I replace one is when he loses it.
