Labor MP Matt Thistlethwaite says Labor is calling for a royal commission into veterans’ suicide because it is “the right thing to do”. Mr Thistlethwaite told Sky News there’s “something wrong” with the system, as he discovered when speaking with parents of veterans who had taken their own lives.

“Nothing has the prohibitive power in Australia as the royal commission and we really need to use that power to get to the bottom of what’s going on,” he said. “It goes beyond the issue of suicide, it’s the support we’re providing for people in the military and beyond.” Anyone who may be feeling distressed can contact the following organisations for support.

MThistlethwaite but what did they do when in power about it nothing more interested in allowing illegal immigrants into the country

MThistlethwaite A complete waste of time! 1: We know the cause - Combat Traumatises those involved. 2: We know what to do - Throw a lot more resources at looking after veterans mental health. 3: “the right thing to do” - Is to stop our warmongering.

MThistlethwaite It's because they are not getting the help they need. Spend the money on services, not another talk fest which will serve only to delay action ,which is all they ever do. What good has ever come out of a Royal Commission?

MThistlethwaite People should be allowed to mill themselves with assisted suicide if determining to be of living less quality of life. 🙏🏽🕊❤️⚖️

MThistlethwaite Labor are excellent at calling for RC’s when in Opposition, in their 6 years in govt they presided over ONE-Equine Influenza-Horse Flu. Such their concern about veterans back then...
