A new version of the internet which is decentralised and built around blockchain is currently under construction and may soon challenge Google, Microsoft and other tech giants in how data is managed.

Version one of the internet saw data was stored on personal desktops while version two sees everything sent to the cloud. PAC Protocol CEO David Gokhshtein told Sky News version three of the internet will see everything on a blockchain giving users the ability to "finally own" their data. “With the YanDNA product that we have coming out, integrated with IPFS software, we’re looking to go ahead and make sure that you drop that Dropbox, pun intended,” he said.

IPFS and blockchain are components needed but not sufficient to create the next Web that gives you control over your data. If the data is not on your own device, it is not in your control, period.
