The United States expresses concern over China's 'efforts to restrict and manipulate' the UN Human Rights chief's visit to the Xinjiang region.

The United States has expressed concern over China's "efforts to restrict and manipulate" the UN human rights chief's visit to the Xinjiang region, Secretary of State Antony Blinken says.Washington had warned authorities would not grant the UN envoy necessary access to get a full assessment of the human rights situation in China

"The United States remains concerned about the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet and her team's visit to the People's Republic of China and PRC efforts to restrict and manipulate her visit," Mr Blinken said in a statement. Mr Blinken reiterated that stance, saying he was "troubled by reports that residents of Xinjiang were warned not to complain or speak openly about conditions in the region, [and] that no insight was provided into the whereabouts of hundreds of missing Uyghurs and conditions for over a million individuals in detention.

Ms Bachelet defended her visit earlier on Saturday, saying it was "not an investigation" but an opportunity to engage with the government. The UN human rights chief's access was limited as China arranged for her to travel in a "closed loop" — isolating people within a virtual bubble to prevent the spread of COVID-19 — with no foreign press.

China cracked down on the province after many terrorist attacks in China. However most of the accusations are made up lies from US state department. China is not the dangerous enemy to this world, USA is! If you can't see this you are blinded by fake propaganda.

Correct

Keep remaining that hypocritical concern. China doesn't even cares about what US feel. Leave the Uyghurs alone as they are very proud and happy to be Chinese.

When US closes Guantanamo and stops imprisonment of people without trials, then perhaps I can take their Human Rights objections seriously.

China probably couldn’t care less!!

taotaoz1991 What concern Mr. Secretary SecBlinken , look inward to the US's own schools mass shootings.

Your headline is wrong. It should be OHCHR (UNHumanRights) not UNHCR (Refugees)

It’s not unhcr. It’s unchr. Your headline is wrong

Blah blah Blinken doesn't like the outcome, so he tries a smear job. Typical.

u not only would not prefer to visit XJ, but say the UN's visit not transparent, why not yourself visit XJ in person before u say genocide and human rights violation here. Either you come or you fear over the booming and Prosperity in XJ

And this is the US transparency

Atleast SecBlinken haven't mentioned that they want to co-operate with China on Xinjiang!!! His China speech is nothing but a sham

Yann is one of many planning to leave China, fearing a never-ending COVID-zero policyA growing number of young people in China are looking to escape their country's COVID-zero policy, and it might have implications for Australian businesses. Presumably he heard the ALP is now in government so it will be (a) easier to get here and (b) easier to sponge on the Australian taxpayer I'm sure they would be welcomed by America, because they just love subservient citizens.

Australia should ‘anticipate’ China’s next move not ‘react’ to itFat panda would be rolling around with delight watching Australia squirm over Solomon's China deal ? ajphelo This doesn't add up... In 2019 they were fully aware of these problems and looks like did nothing about it. Anticipating would be reactionary. Should have been way ahead in planning, strategy and implementation.
