At least 40 civilians were killed when US-backed Afghan forces attacked a Taliban hideout, with many dying from gunfire and the detonation of suicide vests.

At least 40 civilians attending a wedding party were killed by explosions and gunfire during a raid by US-backed Afghan government forces on a nearby Islamist militant hideout, officials in Helmand province say.

Afghan officials said a house being used by the Taliban to train suicide bombers was located adjacent to the bride's home that came under fire during Sunday night's commando assault in the Musa Qala area of Helmand in Afghanistan's south. Mr Salim and two senior provincial government officials said 40 people, including 12 children, were killed at the wedding venue when Afghan forces swooped on the house used by Taliban and al-Qaeda militants to train male and female suicide bombers.

A second ministry official said a foreign militant detonated a suicide vest that killed him and others around him, including a woman, in response to the raid."We are aware that civilians were injured in the attack," he said.

Treat China like a grown-up, says Scott Morrison on US tourThe prime minister says the whole world - China and the US included - must pull together to make sure global trading rules are fit for a modern age. Great news, together we can bring real prosperity. Love Trump he is doing a great job, hope Scomo is 1\\2 as successful. I have been Back in France a month now and I can truly appreciate the mediocrity of the Australian government. It’s a different world here almost not the same timeline. Australia seems so backward viewed from here.
