Urgent legislation is being introduced into the WA Parliament today after police accessed QR code check-in information from the SafeWA app as part of a murder investigation.Attorney-General John Quigley says police asked businesses to hand over SafeWA check-in dataFines will also be introduced for businesses that fail to destroy data after 28 days

He said the legislation would protect the sanctity and confidentiality of data collection through the SafeWA app, which was introduced to help authorities contract trace COVID-19 cases. "Because it is so important to maintain community confidence in SafeWA, we've come down in favour of nobody," Mr Quigley said.Attorney General John Quigley says he doesn't want anyone to have access to data collected by the SafeWA app."By bringing in this legislation, it is not as though we are impeding the police in any way because they have at their resources, far more sophisticated methods of locating someone's whereabouts," Mr Quigley said.

love it how the cops are the problem, but it's businesses that are threatened with the fines.

don't forget the law can change again later.

Yet do nothing about the Fact I never existed in systems because government can murder.

If the app was used to check in they can use the phone provider ping info to establish the location.

Eroding your liberty under the guise of keeping society safe. This Govt pride itself on accessing private phone conversations... where the US, bc of more stringent laws, were unable to read. What is Australia... another water boarding country
