Birdlife Australia’s public affairs manager, Sean Dooley, said there was no doubt koels were becoming much more common in Melbourne. “That bird was perhaps the vanguard, as the records have really increased since then. Our Birdata monitoring website now has 750 records of the koel in Victoria.”

We just call them koels around here in our part of NSW. Got a juvenile in the backyard now. BUT climate change may well be factor in them migrating as far as Mexico.

Never heard the term devil bird. Sums it up perfectly. Nest stealing, native bird killing, sleep depriving pests 😂

When we left Sydney in 2008 I thought we had finally escaped the constant raucous koel, but it appeared on the far south coast a few years ago unfortunately.

It’s a Koel. Can we not ascribe Christian psuedo-morality judgements to other species appearances?

Devil bird? Normal people (not gaslighting climate botherers) call them rainbirds or stormbirds.
