Two people onboard a specially chartered flight into Melbourne for the Australian Open have tested positive for coronavirus, meaning players travelling with them will be confined to their rooms and unable to train for 14 days.
The flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne arrived yesterday morning, according to a screenshot of an email posted on Instagram by Mexican player Santiago Gonzalez. Everyone on board will need to isolate and will be confined to their rooms for 14 days, the letter says. Under quarantine conditions ahead of the grand slam next month, players are allowed out of their hotel room for up to five hours each day to train.
Irresponsible, makes a mockery of public that have endured months of restrictions and lockdowns. Tennis event is not essential during a pandemic

I love tennis and love the Australian Open, but this is just a slap in the face for Australians stuck overseas for months and months as well as those separated from their spouses/kids because of the travel ban.

So for these players being forced into “strict quarantine” would then imply that the rest of the players and entourage (I prefer to call them Quarantine Robbers) are treated to a lax regime of quarantine. What a “fair go” society we are not!!
