Depending on who you listened to, this week’s Melbourne protests were an example of union thuggery or rising right-wing extremism. But what the city needed was for its leaders to condemn the violence. | ANALYSIS covid19 vaccine melbournelockdown pr...

tradies, many of them union members, as well as supporters of the so-called “Freedom movement” and those engaged in far-right ideologies.Protesters set off flares in the city on Tuesday in the second day of demonstrations.Union bosses may not have organised the protests, but that doesn’t mean their members – out-of-work tradies – weren’t there in numbers, demonstrating against mandatory vaccinations and the two-week shutdown of construction sites.

But construction union members were there too, driven by a fear of the COVID-19 vaccines and worried about how they would pay the bills when their industry was shut down for two weeks.Such vaccine hesitancy may not be shared by union boss John Setka – who has said a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for the construction sector is “unfortunate” but a reality of living in a pandemic – but it’s a fury shared by many grassroots union members.

It is perhaps a case of union officials being out of step with the concerns of their members, however absurd they seem.

MurdochRiots

Pot calling the kettle black.

Andrews did condemn the thuggery of these bottom feeders.

The media stoked these riots. Look in the mirror. These riots suit the Age and Herald Sun down to the ground.

The relentless undermining of the health message/continual undermining of the state govt by the media has contributed to this. No other state has had to endure it. Stop acting shocked by what is occurring. You’d all do well to own it. Being just left of the H-S doesn’t cut it.

Well, the Premier did condemn it. But I haven't heard anything but 'You can't blame them' from the opposition leader and federal ministers, and Scummo gave us a perfunctory 'naughty, naughty!' Pathetic.

Media and the liberals not one has condemned

Look in the mirror , the media has been undermining this state for 18 months .

Murdoch and LNP have become a disastrous cancer on our society! Fuelling anger for profit & political gain. This is becoming very dangerous.

Here’s an idea for Victoriapolice…send in booze/drug buses - this would quickly disperse the crowd!? victoria vicprotests riots vicriots

Oh my god. Are Media really brain dead or just plain “don’t give 2 shits”. ALL MEDIA have to take responsibility for all of this. YOU along with the Fed Govt and Vic Opp have been “campaigning against” Vic Govt since the onset of Covid. 😡🤬😡

You guys are a joke

What the city needs is for MurdochGutterMedia to stop inciting violence & to stop rubbish headlines like this. has become nothing more than a rag paper with 2-bit ‘journalists’ promoting the Murdoch narrative.

The protests were neither of how you buffoons have represented them. They were protests. Any violence was the police and Dan Andrews fault and responsibility

LNP are using this to incite violence Just like Trump did in US The media is inciting the violence too

TheAge, Hypocrites.

What an inane article. The pretext is good - the “protests” should be condemned. But it ignores that while both sides may have tried to “spin” the incident to their advantage, the ALP and the union movement have condemned the protests. The LNP have not. And PM is MIA again.

MarkTregonning Did the senior Victorian federal Liberal politician condemn the violence on Monday and Tuesday? Did the next most senior? I haven’t seen it if they did.

Nothing from the Prime Minister,

99% of us know it’s RW agitators, incels and Qanon anti vax goons pretending to be tradies but you do you Costello media.

Easiest way is to report this Tweet for political misinformation. Useless paper with a dying audience. You will all be jobless eventually.

FFS 'out of work tradies' seriously? It has been 2 days because they caused construction to be closed down. Cry me a river. There have been plenty who haven't had consistent work for almost 2 years.

COVID cases 'having visitors' over partly to blame for Kempsey lockdown, officials sayAuthorities said some of the infected people's failure to isolate '100 per cent' was a contributing factor to stay-at-home orders being imposed. Codswallop, government and media are to blame, always, it's convenient they get to blame the governed for failures of government, but the public aren't liable for a feeble system, the fools the public are foolish enough to pay good money to govern are. I'm a troll, I am proud to be, I say stuff that riles people up just to prove I am being heard, simple as that: if you offend a protected minority you will incur the wrath of an army of social justice warriors, so if no one turns up you know your voice has been muted... Muted for being a troll when being a troll to prove you haven't been muted, it is the perfect arrangement for ideological media: I hurt someone's feelings? Codswallop, you are protecting corrupt media, not peoples feelings, my fellow citizens are adults, you are patronizing them.
