Trump threatens to deploy the US military against protesters

US President Donald Trump has declared he will end the rioting and violence that has broken out at protests across America in recent days, vowing to deploy the military even if it goes against the wishes of local officials.

Moments later, Trump appeared holding a bible at St John's Episcopal Church, which was set fire the previous night.Trump said he was invoking the Insurrection Act, a 213-year old federal law that allows the president to deploy military troops within the US to suppress "civil disorder, insurrection, and rebellion".with an "overwhelming law enforcement presence".

"To end the destruction and arson and to protect the rights of law abiding Americans, including your Second Amendment rights."
