ANALYSIS: 'Traditional Labor' Qld budget grappling with some old problems

If you were unlucky enough to arrive at a hospital emergency department on a stretcher, how long do you think you would wait on that stretcher?Queensland Health's own target is for 90 per cent of patients to be off that stretcher in less than 30 minutes.Targets are also being missed on discharge times, and treatment times for category one, two and three patients.

The statistics were laid out in black and white in a budget the Premier described as a "traditional Labor budget" that "focused on health, education and housing".It is indeed a tradition of Queensland Labor governments to spend more than half of their budgets on the two monoliths of health and education.his first budget handed down last DecemberCompare that to the three budgets of the Newman LNP government between 2012 and 2015, which allocated 48.5 per cent, 49.

So frustrated was he and his then-health minister that they even considered fining hospitals $10,000 an hour if ambulances were kept waiting.
