Project Walwaay, named after the Wiradjuri word for young man, was instigated by Detective Superintendent Peter McKenna, commander of the Orana Mid-Western Police District.
The project established an Aboriginal youth team, consisting of four dedicated police officers and an Aboriginal community liaison officer. Working through the already-established Rise Up program, the Project Walwaay staff pick up the young people up on buses a couple of mornings a week and take them to the local PCYC.

This cycle needs to be broken with kids. Stop the abuse going on and encourage education. This will help prevent many chemical dependencies from developing which in turn reduces the crime rates.
