New data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare shows an extra 55,000 patients were added to public hospital elective surgery lists nationally last year with almost 900,000 now in the queue. Almost eight per cent of patients waited longer than a year to be admitted in 2020-21 compared with under three per cent the previous year.Melbourne mum Jaclyn Engellenner's six-month-old baby Eleanor has had her surgery to repair a cleft lip and palate pushed back.
