Thousands of McDonald’s workers have joined a class action against the fast-food giant over alleged “system failures”.

It comes after the Federal Court found former employee Chiara Staines was not provided with paid 10-minute rest breaks when working shifts four hours or longer. The court heard that the franchisee misrepresented the nature of the breaks and Ms Staines was paid the value of her lost breaks.

“This class action has hit a nerve for thousands of staff, both past and present, who have been victims of the workplace breaches we allege,” she said. “McDonald‘s was aware of my heart condition when they hired me and still never gave me the 10-minute break I was entitled to,” he said. A McDonald’s spokeswoman told news.com.au said they recieved the filing on Tuesday and were ‘taking the time required to consider the matter’.“The claim against McDonald’s Australia is related to 10 minute rest breaks. McDonald‘s Australia is mindful of its obligations under applicable employment laws, including the Fast Food Industry Award and the former enterprise agreement,” she said.

I'm no friend of QANTAS' IR record but I'm right behind them on this one. You do realise why BHP lost don't you? It wasn't due to the mandate itself.... man the SMH has already gone downhill since it got a new chief editor.

For almost a decade, Joanne has been followed and filmed. But what happened last year 'really rattled' herOne of the nation's largest racing bodies is under investigation for what injured workers say is its aggressive and unfair handling of workers compensation claims.\n Hmm so it isn’t just the innate cruelty is horse racing we should be worried about. Hired goons too eh? The racing_nsw self management of Workers Comp scheme has always been one out in Australia. Why would you want to do it yourself? The proof is the insurance premiums - how do they compare vs Vic,Qld and SA for example austrainers ? Go figure. I would hazard a guess that there are lots of people out there, who haven't bothered trying to claim WC because it's too difficult and too stressful, when they really would have qualified.

Berejiklian backing ignites federal campaign fight on corruptionLiberals are split on the plan to vault the former NSW premier into the seat of Warringah in the hope of toppling independent Zali Steggall, with some thinking it will widen the election row over a stalled proposal to create a national integrity commission. CroweDM Gee what could be problematic about failing on election commitment to create and anti corruption body and then preselecting a disgraced politician? CroweDM Rubbish, it's just a dead cat CroweDM How many other politicians, both Labor and Liberal, have had their careers ruined by ICAC findings, without any comment from government about the validity of the decision. This is treating the people of Australia with contempt
