A Vietnamese single mother is facing deportation from Australia with her son because she has hepatitis B, despite changes to immigration health rules designed to benefit migrants with chronic medical conditions.
The cap on the amount the government was prepared to fork out for treatment was lifted from $40,000 to $49,000. “It’s really good news that the government has done something to make it easier for people who are in the same situation as me, but I wish that it would come earlier so we could appeal our visa,” she said.
"The policy has continued to protect the Australian community from public health and safety risks, contain public expenditure on health care and community services, and safeguard the access of Australian citizens and permanent residents to health care and community services in short supply."The World Health Organisation estimates there are 39 million people living with chronic hepatitis B in South-East Asia.
She said the costs were often calculated based on old-fashioned ideas about treatment and didn’t take into account improved practices.Value versus cost
Lots of people from UK have been sent back for health reasons. Everybody had to be fit and healthy to get to stay aa sick people would be drain on taxpayers.
fair enough and depends on what visa she on, depends if she been working and paying taxes or only cash in hand, depends if she lied in immigration interviews or forms. So much more needs to be known than just a women have disease and they kick her out.

What visa was she on? Details are important...
And yet criminals get hep treatment in Qld goals at a cost of $50000 for free
Could we stop being nasty Australia
Good Govt and Dutton relaxing health related visa cancelation but here’s another need to save case... it’s important to save a mother and her young son’s future after 10 years of living here.
Once again our government and departments behave like assholes .. because they can..
This is not convenient for Australia: allowing migrants with chronic decease will overload hospitals with people that never paid taxes and will probably never work. Vietnam can take care of their own citizens
Of course, only healthy people are allowed into Australia, otherwise they are a burden on the health system.
See ya.
