We as a couple decided that when we had children my wife would stop working. Financially this was painful but we lived with it. Now as our children have grown up, she studies, does charity work and looks after the home. We are lucky enough to be able to do this, don't judge.

Maybe part of the cloud over the concept is the lack of value placed on homemaking and childcare - both of which are full time jobs. If a woman (or a man) chooses to make that their career choice they shouldn’t be criticised for it.
