Australians affected by this summer's bushfires say Canberra's leadership tussles have overshadowed a day meant for those devastated by the unprecedented disaster.

"Start acting on climate change and making sure the fires don't get any worse and start impacting more people."

NSW Rural Fire Service crews appear barely distinguishable amid haze after extinguishing a fire that crossed the Monaro Highway, four km north of Bredbo.Residents who lost their homes in the devastating conditions have also been left feeling dejected, with some accusing Canberra of forgetting the true purpose of Parliament's first day back.

Melinda Plesman delivered her climate message to Canberra by scrawling it across the remains of her fire-ravaged home.Ms Plesman concedes little has changed since her protest, maintaining there is plenty left to discuss at the highest levels. "The first morning back in Wagga I woke up in tears...I sat down and penned a letter to McCormack. I found whilst I was sitting in that bunker my thoughts went to Michael McCormack and his lack of action and the federal government's inaction."

Canberra the city isn't the guilty party here. Lazy media reporting again.

So why don't you apologise for your part in manifesting their angst? Why are you presenting this article as though it is parliaments fault? It's YOU! The media 🙄 'However, many of the headlines and talking points have been reserved for internal party divisions' SBSNazis

Oh my.... The hurt feelings Gestapo are at it again 🤦‍♂️ They're having an attention deficit fuelled by the media. Don't bring politics into it 🙄 it's all your doing! 👇 'However, many of the headlines and talking points have been reserved for internal party divisions'

DonRWNJslayer B Joyce obviously doesn’t give a stuff about anyone but himself, but, further to that the leadership challenge has deflected from Morrison and his involvement with the sportsrort scandal. The old “look over there” tactic to the rescue yet again!

AmyRemeikis You have to understand what is important to the politicians.

I don’t know why that surprises anyone. This lot have no real compassion or thought for anyone but themselves

Leading the Greens was the 'greatest honour of my life': Di Natale | Sky News AustraliaRichard Di Natale has resigned as Greens leader and will depart the Senate to spend time with his family knowing his is the only party “acknowledging the climate crisis we’re in”. \n\nMr Di Natale said “it’s the greatest honour of my life to be able to lead a movement that is committed to all of the things I believe so deeply in”.\n\nDi Natale said his decision was made in order to spend more time with his young children, who are nine and 11 years old and who, in a few years’ time, are “probably not going to want to know their old man”. \n\n“I’m going to resign as a senator once my replacement has been chosen; I expect that’ll happen at some point towards the middle of the year,” he said. \n\n“I just want to be more present in their lives, that’s the bottom line.”\n\nImage: News Corp Australia Which fruit cake will be the next leader I wonder. I hope it's SHY. Richard retires as an inconsequential failure, the same way he conducted the rest of his career. Off you go, Richard. You won't be missed. What a spectacularly nasty swipe this tweet is. China’s state media has a better sense of decorum and is less blatantly ideological than this trash.
