In the short space of one year, Annabelle and Alex have slashed the money the spend on electricity, gas and petrol to zero. Here's how they did it.

For another thousand dollars, they replaced the gas cooker with an electric induction cooktop.

Replacing this last gas appliance meant they could disconnect from the gas grid, which saved them the $1.50 daily service fee.Next, Annabelle and Alex paid $1,000 to upgrade their existing 3.5kW rooftop solar panels to a 5kW system, which meant they were producing more energy than they consumed."We're in credit even in winter," Annabelle says.Australia has the highest per capita uptake of rooftop solar in the world.

Their mortgage provider offers the special rate for customers undertaking ambitious green upgrades to their home.found all-electric homes with a 5kW solar system save $9,000-$16,000 over 10 years, compared to gas-electric homes with no solar.estimated that electrifying heating, cooking and hot water, swapping petrol cars for EVs, and installing "oversized solar" would save the average household up to $6,000 per year. The Nissan Leaf EV, imported second-hand from Japan, cost $36,000.

Probably feasible for people whose income is $100K or more. ABC need to do another story on the pitfalls of going solar.

So disingenuous! Their “net zero” home exports solar power out during the day, then reimported fossil fuel power at night, these posers didn’t instal a battery and basically prove the point that green is not possible for base load power at reasonable cost!

Going from gas to electricity……are you for real That’s like saying going from petrol car to electric car!! Your still using fossil fuel & if not more of it!! ….. GO SOLAR OR WIND…..!!!!

Watch the cost 💲 of living rising, as result of this Climate crap 💩

Sounds lovely. Questions: How long before we need to replace solar panels? My enquires suggest every 15-20yrs. And can they be entirely recycled? Do we need to ‘dig anything up’ to make panels? This story seems to be all about $ saving.

I did save on my electricity by installing solar panels 3 yrs ago $2475 after rebate. Lucky to get 20c FIT and had not paid any electricity & credit of $1800 since installing. Using heating by air conditioner & not gas heating. Gas bill of $60 every 2 months.

Now for the Phone Bill

“All up, the transition cost $12000” good way to relate to the blue collar crowd.
