Two months ago, Premier Daniel Andrews said Victorians could expect a summer filled with the "normality we've all craved" due to the state's strong vaccination coverage.
He said the size of the fall could not be fully accounted for by the hundreds of thousands of Victorians isolating as cases or close contacts. "We're still doing things like we're going to the park, we're going to the beach on hot days, you can see that very clearly," he said. Victorians are less interested in finding restaurants or cafes to enjoy than they are in finding a rapid antigen test , for example.
The Department of Transport's figures show public transport usage steadily rose through December to hit 83 per cent of February 2020 levels — before crashing to 32 per cent.Business groups have been sounding growing alarm about the trend for weeks, warning the unofficial "shadow lockdown" is dealing significant damage to the bottom line, but this time without significant government support.
Afraid of their own shadow and mind controlled.
Yes, people in Sydney all working from home just nipping out to grab lunch
Melburnians? Melbournians
I think NSW needs to follow suit. At least Victorians are smart.
MSMWatchdog2013 Soooooo glad I turned down a NYE party..every single person who attended caught covid
MSMWatchdog2013 Yes. Might add we're doing the same in NSW.
Damon Cbr. Friend of mine has been going to live music venues. Very poor audiences, most people staying home.
rwillingham Everyone staying safe while DansCodeBrown emergency is going. SpringSt
Too late now wash ya hands !
Not this little super spreader 👍
proof that the Andrew govt failed in protecting Victorians, but himself. He could not care less anymore
Unlike a lot of entitled Sydney ppl, Melburnians have a sense of community responsibility. We look out for our fellow neighbour.
As it should be. Those who can stay home will. Those who can't and/or don't want to won't
I will be protesting
The LNP wanted us all to take responsibility for ourselves..do we are...😷
thanks to scomo
Well, after hammering fear in the heads of ppl, instead of educating them to a balanced risk approach, this is not surprising at all. I'm fine w that, though. If someone does not feel comf to get out of the house they should feel free to do so.
Maybe we just forgot how to go out? 😷💉
Looks like they 'got government out of the way' and are exercising free will. Who woulda thought.
Same story in Brisbane
It’s not just Melbourne!
A 'work from home if you can' order is in place in Melbourne. That's a big mobility impact. My daughter wisely canceled her New Year's Eve plan. The people she was planning to go with caught COVID that evening.
This is why people actually supported lockdowns. Most had no intention of going out anymore than strictly necessary.
rwillingham Because we are all close contacts or have covid!
How to lock down without imposing lockdown. How smart melburnians are!
Yep because people staying home are either getting sick, are close contacts, or scared of getting sick and dying from coronavirus. It's not hard to work out
So when will you be interviewing yet another cafe owner about it?
Of course we are. Have you looked at the death toll?
'If you're fully vaccinated … then your life will be back to normal ' -umm not true. My whole family is fully vaxed, yet we all caught C19 in the pas month. Life is nowhere near normal anymore.
Thanks to the fear campaign by the media.
No beer garden = no business. All the 18-30 who wanted to catch it did, the rest are waiting until it subsides.
People are learning to protect themselves after the government failed to do so.
This is understandable.
This will continue . Despite what the so call experts say ,we expect a huge surge in cases and hospitalisation when students return to schools and colleges in Feb. The infected young will infect their families
Yep despite the rhetoric from you guys 😖😖 Shows how much people trust you lot
well that is Sally Craaps Melbourne
nothing to do but smoke weed and have sex
'If you're fully vaccinated … then your life will be back to normal” … all the ‘fully protected’ also full of confidence their jab works.
I can see the ramifications of this Pandemic becoming a new normal. Times are a-changing. Your home is your castle.
whether sun
And NSW and QLD.
Wow! An anti Victorian story from SkyBC Who'd have thought...
Weak people
What so it could've been optional all along 'This is systematic, mass, stay-at-home behaviour, the likes of which we usually see during deep, organised stage four-style lockdowns,' he said.
Half of the Victorian population has moved to QLD
