The hyperventilating over Cormann's private jet is as predictable as it is short-sighted | BevanShields

The OECD matters because its members represent 60 per cent of global GDP and nations can only join by demonstrating a commitment to democracy and free-market principles. It is also morphing into a policy making forum; if agreement for a new tax on multinational tech giants is to be struck, it will be struck at the OECD.

Scott Morrison ruffled feathers in 2019 when he commissioned a review into our commitment to these global groups. The review came back and urged the government to play an even bigger role and get more Australians appointed to key positions. Cormann's OECD candidacy is in line with this advice.Australian-born former World Bank president who died this weekThe only way to change this is to engage. You can't do that via Zoom alone. A seat at the table will not be secured on the cheap.

BevanShields Any Australian government spending our money for positions on seats or to lobby members of the European OECD is not going to be looked upon favourably. To say people are fed up with throwing the public purse open for the very unpopular Cormann is not hyperventilating.

BevanShields This is an insult to every unemployed person being screwed over by the Australian govt.

BevanShields There's a big difference between thousands of people and 1 person logistically, c'mon. But this is the petty politics of Labor; wave through handouts for the wealthy but freak-out about hypocrisy. Demanding gov gets Aussies home before 25/12 is an effective narrative on its own.

BevanShields F O.

BevanShields Will Cormann be encouraging OECD memebers to abandon Paris Agreement? Surely he must otherwise he is a hypocrite or a liar or both.

BevanShields Can we get a picture of Conmann smoking a cigar on the steps of the plane? That’s the money shot to get him elected to the OCED. That shot of him and Hockey made me proud to be a hard working Australian.

BevanShields JFC how stupid does the think it’s readers are? BevanShields This reads like a Media Release straight from ScottMorrisonMP new marketing idiot Russell Howcroft. howcroft

BevanShields He’s now a private citizen looking for a job. Why all the perks?

BevanShields Funny how pointing out improper use of public money is described as 'hyperventilating'!

BevanShields He's the wrong man for the job backed by a tone deaf government in a taxpayer funded plane that could be better utilised to return stranded Australians.

BevanShields Just wow.

BevanShields as long as other private citizens can access taxpayer funded 8 full time staff and a private jet when looking for a job, why not

BevanShields Got a feeling Bevo is enjoying the Fairfax lurch to the right

BevanShields That English weather has addled your brain🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

BevanShields There are 20,000,000 people in Australia more eminently qualified than Cormann for the role. It's cynical beyond conventional belief and everyone knows it.

BevanShields Any lies to justify money for the boys. What other stance would the propaganda machine called the Sydney Morning Herald take.

BevanShields Bevan is not bright

BevanShields What if he doesn't get the job anyway And what difference will it make for Australia if he does A continuance of climate denial on his part MC is a charlatan as is your boss Peter Costello. BevanShields

BevanShields Context & optics are everything. We are in a pandemic where ppl can’t really fly. Ppl havent seen loved ones for months. Ppl are stranded o/s. Ppl have lost jobs & no money. The g’ment have cut jobseeker. Pork barrelling is rife. This is why ppl are pissed off with this! Optics!

BevanShields The hyperventilating over Dan Andrews was the issue. Not over this rort. It’s appropriate to vent the issue and it’s a disgrace that it has occurred.

BevanShields I hope the OECD sees how we are reacting and how ironic it is to be so green but flying around in a private plane.

BevanShields Tell that to the Australians stuck overseas. We have a RAAF transport fleet as big as an international airline and we use it to ferry a bloke on a parliamentary pension to go to a job interview. You're out of touch Bevan.

BevanShields So MathiasCormann swoops around Europe on a publicly-funded jet spouting a Green recovery having just walked out of a Government that has done it's best to strangle a transition away from fossil fuels for the best part of a decade. Yep, sounds fair. auspol

BevanShields So it seems Bevan is confirming Cormann will be the cuckoo in OECD nest to move away from saving the planet if he is there to push for LNP's views. Also forgot LNP were loud against Rudd & Gillard lobbying to get seat and once we got it, Julie revelled in it. Hypocrites.

BevanShields It's not so much the jet as it is the hypocrisy

BevanShields The article is predictably a pile of crap

BevanShields Is the OECD position part time? He does have part time attendance skills :

BevanShields

BevanShields Seems Bevan got sucked in by ScottyFromPhotoOps, it's for the good of the country BS.

BevanShields Ethnic European migrants like him haven't come here for peanuts like ethnic Asian migrants over the last 250 years to my sunburnt Black Australia since forever!

BevanShields That’s some high quality “journalism” there folks...

BevanShields The obvious right wing arse kissing by the SMH and Age since new ownership is adorable. What a patronising pathetic piece to attempt to normalise our broken system to the ignorant masses.

BevanShields “Australians should be ambitious internationally”. But not at home? Is that how it works now? Aust has no intention of updating its Paris Agreement target nor adopting a net-zero emissions target. We have no credentials on this on the world stage. Pathetic article.

BevanShields What rubbish Whoever approved this expenditure is guilty of misuse of public money I certainly DO NOT want LNP figures anywhere near OECD policy on climate change, equality or labour standards To see Corman sprouting about green recovery is nauseating given his record

BevanShields Are you a stand up comic in your spare time. Keep your jokes for that.

BevanShields The problem lies, in fact, with a Government that makes a tremendous fuss over any expenditure on ordinay people. A constant reminder that 'some are more equal than others'. Of course it gets questioned.

BevanShields Where is the 'Advertorial' label?

BevanShields No it’s not it’s absolutely a disgraceful rort

Pat on the head coming from Costello any moment for a job well done.

BevanShields Wrongheaded contrarian piffle

An appallingly bad take from Sields is as predictable as the next egregious LNP scandal.

BevanShields Cormann 'speaks 4 languages' - how fluently? His English is almost incomprehensible. His other 'skills' are as questionable. Trickle down economics is a failed ideology, as is politicising our climate emergency. If the OECD value pure hubris, he's got plenty

BevanShields Here for the ratio. A private jet is excessive. 8 staff is excessive. Some behind the scenes lobbying and calls from prominent people is what is acceptable. And is he liable for Fringe Benefit Tax on this mammoth expense?

BevanShields Predictable puff piece

BevanShields Bevan plz

BevanShields You missed a major point: The OECD needs to lead the world to a renewable economy. Corman resisted renewables at every turn of his political career. He's not what the planet needs.

BevanShields Abbott... Cormann.... why is ScottMorrisonMP scomo recycling coal friendly pollies on the international market?

BevanShields

BevanShields Interesting article. Are there any examples of the benefits that other countries/ regions have obtained from having 'their man' in charge of the OECD?

BevanShields And if we the Taxpayers determine the bill as you call it,was not worth it,what then, that’s right just another snouts in the trough LNP can’t defend the indefensible 🤔🤔🤔

BevanShields Says a bloke that’s never done it hard in his life . Entitled

BevanShields The SMH’s hyperventilating over being constantly called out for their LNP bias. We see it. It’s real.

BevanShields I am not short-sighted Bevan. I understand the importance of the OECD. I want far-sighted action on climate change & social justice. But I am worn sick of men who harm Australia & go on and get promoted. SICK OF IT. Made worse by excessive luxury at this time.

BevanShields As corrupt as it gets!

BevanShields FIRST up it's not his Private JET It's not his personal Piggy BANK As this Former Finance Minister was part of the MOB spinning It's not Gov. Money IT's YOURS Superannuation argument ' it's your money ' Tax cuts for the Super well off It's Yours you should keep it IT's our JET

BevanShields Bevan is a verb

BevanShields So having an Australian voice in the OECD is more important than having a competent and capable representative who doesn't embarrass our country with stupidity and harmful policies?

BevanShields Nice to see you are as tone deaf as this government. The government chooses to allocate resources for this. The government does not however allocate sufficient resources for Australians trying to get home.

BevanShields 'Having an Australian voice at the table will be money well spent.' As one of just 37 members, Australia ALWAYS has a voice at the table (unlike the UNSC). And the OECD secretary-general isn't appointed to speak for a country (unlike a seat on the UNSC). So, bullshit

BevanShields This tweet deserves to get rationed.

BevanShields Maybe so.....but Cormann is a fool

BevanShields What rot BevanShields

BevanShields Why don’t you cover the costs then?

BevanShields

BevanShields It’s a waste of tax payer money so you can piss off with that. What an utter Bevan
