WA's environment minister concedes the government has set a high bar with its emissions reduction target, given the state's heavy reliance on high-emitting industries like mining, resources and agriculture.

abc.net.au/news/wa-target-of-net-zero-emissions-by-2050-to-be-legislated/101886510The WA government has announced plans to enshrine its commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2050 in law, but will not set targets to get there until at least the end of the year.

"It provides clarity and certainty to the business community that this is the journey so you need to come with us, you need to make that investment," he told ABC Radio Perth. "When you send a very clear signal to the community and industry alike that this is the way forward, you're going to stimulate investment in new technologies, new infrastructure, and that in turn will result in economies of scale."

McGowan has done a good job with the weather. We have had mild summers and plenty of rain but nothing extreme.

Are they closing all mines and seafood and grain production oh oh and the sheep farming as well 🙄🤣🤣🤣

They can't kill everyone

Net zero Means no humans No plant life

Just secede, ffs. I'd rather camp under Santa Monica Pier for a holiday than visit Perth. ClimateCult

What's the penalty if they don't make it and who pays it? One guess. All this moral grandstanding is pure political theatre

Most of the planet has had similar targets for nearly 2 decades, and yet the planets emissions have increased. It will be interesting to see what WA plans to do differently?

idiots vote for it, one day soon they'll wake up to the fact there's no science at all to back up fake news, government or the corrupt UN just propaganda

And what happens if the target isn’t met since it depends on the population acting?

Thank god laws can be changed as easily as governments.

Standby for blackouts WA, the grid is just about ready to fail already...

Beware any cults claiming they can change the weather...🧐
