The Delta COVID-19 variant could be putting young, healthy people at greater risk of fatal heart complications, according to the director of Australia's leading cardiac research centre.

Key points: The Delta variant of COVID-19 appears to be causing more serious health problems for young people In the last two weeks two young people with COVID-19 died in Sydney Young people are far more likely to develop heart inflammation from COVID-19 than Pfizer While earlier strains of the virus were most deadly among the elderly, Professor Jason Kovacic, from Sydney's Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, said there was evidence to suggest Delta was different."Then it was all about concern for those girls and their families and naturally a certain amount of fear and anxiety about who might be affected next.NSW has recorded 262 local coronavirus cases - the highest daily number in the state since the pandemic begun - including at least 43 infectious in the community and five additional deaths.US woman Avery explained in a TikTok video that her acne treatment contains a high dose of vitamin A, called isotretinoin, used to close the skin’s sebaceous glands.

He said the variant, which was first identified in India and is now the subject of outbreaks in NSW, Queensland and Victoria, appeared to cause more serious infections and complications in younger people."The data is still emerging on exactly how common the cardiac side effects are with this strain," he said."We have all sorts of things like people wanting to come back from long service leave to help support delivery of remote learning, we're hearing about suburban food drops for people, you've got all sorts of people reaching out," she said."However anecdotally we're certainly seeing a few more cases of cardiac complications in younger people from Delta.“There's no doubt the health system is under stress because we have a massive battle." Jason Kovacic says he's seeing more heart complications from COVID-19 in young people."The girls are coming up with some clever and innovative and exciting ways to break up the boredom and mainly to keep them feeling connected.( Supplied: Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute ) Professor Kovacic said one of Delta's side effects could include inflammation of the heart, known as myocarditis.RELATED: A US woman rushed to hospital when her lips turned black following after contracting Delta.

In severe cases, myocarditis can weaken the heart, and lead to heart failure, abnormal heartbeat or sudden death.New cases will be confirmed by Queensland authorities today.“A quarter of those were literally in the last 24 hours,” he continued. It can also lead to blood clots, which commonly start in the legs and then move up to the heart or lungs.People don't need to be critically ill, or have underlying heart conditions, to be affected and Professor Kovacic said he had seen several COVID-19 patients die this way.The school's headmaster Anthony Micallef said the school community was supporting those who are unwell."These complications involving the heart are a very significant problem, but thankfully, it's still the minority of people with that experience," he said.A man in his 60s from Sydney’s south west died at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital."It may be inevitable that more young people die as this outbreak is set to get worse, but hopefully it's a very, very, very low number."I have contacted all of the families and the teachers, they're all improving, they're all in good spirits, amusingly a couple of them were online yesterday doing home-based learning from their beds, and one from their hospital bed.It can be life-threatening for patients who are immunocompromised.

" Chief health officer Kerry Chant has described the Delta variant as a "wake up call" for young people that "dispelled the myth" that only elderly people end up in hospital if infected. Most new COVID-19 infections in NSW are now among people aged 20-39." The study from the US , pre-printed last month, analysed more than 14,000 people between the ages of 12 and 17 who had been infected by COVID-19 and found heart inflammation was more common among males.Professor Kovacic said the study proved the risk "wasn't low" and corresponded with what he had seen during the Delta outbreak in Sydney.Earlier this week.

I’d like to point out that this article was edited to include a link to the preprint, non peer reviewed study only after I raised the issue. As of now, the article still does not state that the study is not peer reviewed. Sloppy propaganda, sloppy science. 'Australia's leading cardiac research centre'.. FALSE 'Australia's top heart doctor has been studying Delta'.. FALSE PaigeCockburn is this a paid endorsement or just sloppy journalism?

It would also help to read the papers you cite...perhaps even have them fact checked? Why are you reporting the 27yr olds death as covid and no medical history? It's subject to coroner investigation and family is reported as saying a history of heart issues? after18 months the mysteries are still coming out
