With just under a month until Christmas, some festive staples are set to become more expensive as labor shortages and extreme weather contribute to rising prices. 9News

Tim and Terry Oyster Supply's Terry Arhontogiorgis said there weren't enough oysters to go around and options were limited."Mother nature has had a lot to do with it this year, with all the floods we have had it has been very hard for us to process the amount of oysters we need," he said.

However, on the pork front, Coles national communications and media manager Martine Alpins said there was plenty of supply. "With that Christmas ham, you can plan ahead and buy that now to get that big item out of the way," she said.With under a month until Christmas, some festive staples are set to become more expensive as labor shortages, extreme weather and cost of living costs push prices up.Cooked tiger prawns are cheaper than last year, at Coles they are $28 per kilogram and Woolworths are offering frozen for $25.

Bob Toscano, of Toscano's Quality Fruiterers, said when it came to dessert, the weather had put a dampener on cherry quality and prices."It's a lot higher than last year," he said.Continue reading
