OPINION: The bushfire crisis has given the Government a political 'out' to its climate change problem

The fires across Australia are taking a terrible toll. For those who have lost their loved ones and for those who have lost their homes. For the millions who breathe harmful smoke with the risk of future illness, and for the many businesses that go broke.

The physical and mental scars will be with us for years. Every drive or walk in the woods will be a reminder. Spring will bring fear of the summer. It could be the turning point for Australia's climate change politics and policy that is so deeply in the ditch. Global warming is already changing the world before our eyes — let's see what has happened in your lifetime, and what's in store for your future.

You have created the perception of being aloof, uncaring and ineffective on the fires. This was epitomised in the way thewhen she pleaded for help and the partisan way of going about the announcement of the federal measures.

What a load of self interested non factual garbage .

0.33% of the worlds population, 1.07% of green house gases, 5.2% of the worlds land mass, producing 6.9% of the worlds coal, 1.48% of the worlds GDP! 99% of the worlds virtue signalers!

The Libs haven't changed their stance on the climate crisis, regardless of their sudden change in words coming out of their mouths. LOOK AT BEHAVIOUR & POLICIES, not hollow words. The Libs r in damage control, they will say anything at this point to get their ratings up.

What can you say to someone who writes dribble like this, and won't look at the facts.

Winning huuuuuge with ScoMo!!!!!! He is on track to being Australias best ever PM!!!!! Up Up Cronulla!!!!! Doing a fabulous job

Its time to take real action on these horriffic climate change arsonists and firebugs and global warming pyromaniac environmental terrorists!!! Its time to get these activists off their arse and into prison and mandatory jail terms!!!!!

So incredibly glad to have ScoMo in charge!!!! He will not panic like Albo Sleazy or Bullshit Bill Bullshorten into into making rash decisions as only Toxic Labor and the Greens can and do!!!!!!!

Great sensible writing - thank you...

Mmmm climate change hey? How do you explain the majority of the fires that have been deliberately lit Another garbage piece of journalism Australia has experienced horrible bushfires forever you nit wit

The Aus Gov spent Millions of $ to transfer 4 refugees to Christmas Island. Now we have Thousands of BushfireRefugees . What will ScottMorrisonMP & PeterDutton_MP do ?

treason and exile the bastards

gofundyourselves

But will they take it

🥱More CC propaganda from theirABC. They still don't get that the majority of Australians voted against this bullshit last May.

Naturally TheirABC won't report any of this …

Because as everyone with half a brain knows - ItsTheGreensFault

ScoMo didn't 'turn his back' on that woman from Cobargo. The video clearly shows the man in the hat take up her personal space to distract her from the PM. The PM does what any decent person would, leave to make the guys job easier.

Humans contribute 3% to net global carbon dioxide emissions the remaining 97% is natural processes. Of the 3%, Australia is responsible for 1.3%, which is less than China annual increases in CO2 emissions. Thus Australia is responsible for 0.039% of global CO2 annual output

Shove your opinions

WHY hasn't the Donated money, since PM refuses to ensure all systems go, reached The Ground Today Yesterday? Hungry Firies make Poor Choices! The locals who'd usually do so Are Homeless Too. It's Not Coordinated It's Not good enough IS IT?

Australia could cease to exist tomorrow and that wouldn’t make the slightest difference to global climate, total hysteria these bush fires are tragic but they are not unprecedented

ABC once again taking advantage of the poor situation people are in right now fighting fires to save their homes and lives. Tying a naturally occurring event to politics and the CC hoax. Disgraceful.

should be alright

The government can’t change its view on climate change for the following reasons. (1) Who will tell Tony Abbott & Peta Credlin. (2) it doesn’t suit Rupert. (3) Like most deniers they are too stupid to understand how to assess and manage risk. (4) They would have no policies left

TIME OUR GOVERNMENT GOT 'god' OUT OF CABINET AND STARTED GOVERNING IN THE REAL WORLD.

The problem is not the Murdoch media but the taxpayer funded ABC which represents less than half of those taxpayers. The science on Climate Change isnt settled and more people are waking up to the facts and how they dont add up.

This article implies that Liberal and National MPs are capable of rational thought and reflection. Even as a political maneuver to further their careers, I doubt they could see past their rabid ideology. Particularly not Hillsong McQanon, our PM.

Nope!

I doubt there is any political 'out' here. I think the snarling blame is only going to increase and spread and possibly several generations, Not just boomers, will be blamed for the pathetic mess we have allowed to happen.

After using a video of a night time event at a SC shooting range and saying it was a fire fight in Syria along the boarder right after US troops left. WHY should we believe anything you tweet

The strangest of thought experiments: What would prime minister Tony Abbott have done during the bushfires crisis? The corollary of climate-change denial - or climate change whatareyagunnado? - is that your reactions to the suffering inflicted by the bushfires are complicated. JacquelineMaley Who cares? They’re both grubs! JacquelineMaley Tony Abbott would have called in the army and ordered them to bomb the forests out of existence so they couldn't burn any more, after he'd had his photo taken in his firey uniform. Then he'd have gone to the beach. JacquelineMaley eaten an onion in a yellow jacket
