Liberal Senator James McGrath says Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews should resign, not just because 700 people have died, but “because of his absence of knowledge of how these decisions have been made”.

Premier Andrews fronted the COVID-19 Melbourne Hotel Quarantine Inquiry on Friday and laid part of the blame of the debacle directly at the feet of Health Minister Jenny Mikakos, prompting her resignation the next day. “Accountability means the premier, the elected premier of the state, taking responsibility for the decisions that have been made,” Mr McGrath told Sky News host Paul Murray.

“And he should resign, not just for the 700 deaths that have happened as a result of the decision making, but he should resign because of his absence of knowledge of how these decisions have been made. “He’s either the premier or he’s not the premier, he can’t do this inspector Clouseau, flip flopping, falling all over the place not knowing what he’s up to - he is the premier. “The buck has to stop somewhere, and it needs to stop at the premier’s office.
