The French luxury brand's new holiday campaign has met a strong backlash online, including accusations of promoting child abuse. Here's why.

Images from Balenciaga's latest holiday campaign have been described as "disturbing" and "child exploiting".

The visible portion of the document also has a reference to another Supreme Court case, Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition.Loading Twitter contentAnother photo in the campaign features a model sitting in an office chair inside a high-rise building. "Toddlers engaged in playful but mysterious acts with sinister overtones and insinuations of violence".Within moments of Balenciaga's campaign being released online, the hashtags #BoycottBalenciaga and #CancelBalenciaga started trending.

Among the anger-fuelled responses online, one user said "most people won't even remember" what happened with the brand. The company pulled the campaign and released an apology on Instagram for what many perceived as the sexualisation of children.

Appalling Aussie.

Jog on, covid is a huge emergency as is poverty!

I think people are reading too much into this.

This is some really demented shit! I literally don't get how this stuff was greenlit for publication. Have Balenciaga lost their minds?

Hahahaha 🤣 seriously, people today, offensive 🤦‍♂️ really 🤣

they do this because they know you’ll do this

Beauty and aesthetics don't belong in post modern western civilisations, it's perversion and the grotesque that's the new apex.

I will not shop with BalenciagaGroomers

you would agree that this is pretty bad, right?

G’day shoe0nhead, you made it to Australia

This is simply sick. It's not art or fashion but simply an expression from a pedo who claims to be an 'artist'

There needs to be some police investigation on the people who put this campaign out, with all the layers of inappropriateness in the images, there's more going on.

Literally never heard of the brand before the company put out the pedo campaign.

Golly, look at you ABC reporting on something happening in another country and deeming it in the public interest. Well done. Disgraceful isn't it? LeaveTheKidsAlone

The ABC stirs the embers of cultural discord because it gets clicks in the attention economy....

Why did Andrews win? He got on with the jobReaders discuss why Labor won the election and whether the Liberal Party can rebuild itself. Pretty shit cartoon, it's more text than image. Sad. The always-unfunny Wilcox probably cheered on Trudeau and Creepy Dan Andrews stomping on those who similarly stood up against fascism and government overreach, as did the bulk of the age's brainwashed readership. You hypocritical clowns don't get to criticise Xi after that. Victoria crushed dissent pretty effectively with The Age's support

Why making everything at home is a bad ideaGlobalisation maybe on the nose, but that’s no reason to abandon trading with our global neighbours. rachelclun The poor are servicing the rich. As we saw with the French Revolution it will not go on forever! rachelclun Consideration of making/not making things at home cannot be based on a simple notion globalisation is a good. Why? It is the same as determining Freedom, Justice, Equality, Equity, actually exist or can in reality. We are in a continual war with antithesis culture ideologies. rachelclun Well, yes..The principle of ‘comparative advantage’ and trade. Year 11 Economics students know that. The opposite gives you North Korea and Fascist Italy levels of poverty. Difficult to explain to the “university of life” crowd.
