Teachers want a pay increase up to 7.5 per cent a year to 'begin to reverse the decline in teachers' wages compared to other professions'.

NSW Teachers Federation president Angelo Gavrielatos, speaking on Monday, said: "The NSW government is concerned about children missing out for one day, but we are concerned about children missing out every day because there simply aren't enough teachers."

Transport strikes began on Monday, with bus drivers in the inner west going on strike and their unions calling on the state government to demand its contractor Transit Systems negotiate over a two-tier wage system that has some workers earning less than others for doing the same job. Due to planned industrial action today, significant delays are expected on Sydney Trains & NSW TrainLink Intercity services

Yet other employees are lucky to get a 2% rise...

The NSW government want asset prices and rents to never come down but are not prepared for the plebs to demand more pay to compensate.

Agreed. It’s a labor of live and deserve to be well compensated

Time for this Govt to start to valuing teaching as a profession.

Maybe of they want to be highly paid professionals they should act like them?

Good on them. In unity ✊🏽

Yes, teachers wages have declined compared to other profession in the same way many other professions have declined compared to teachers.

Technology holds the answers to both issues as intelligent classrooms are the way forward and self driving trains and buses

They should be paid better than anyone else, but should stop accepting people who have done degrees then couldn't get work in their speciality so take up teaching., These are not dedicated people.

Good luck

What about ICT, no payrise and bonus. All jobs moving to India/Singapore/Asia. Education is not given importance here, employers have so many options to bring cheap overseas labour.

I want a 7.5% pay rise too! But if I strike, I will get redundant I am sure

TAFEeducation Well- deserved!

Teachers should be really well paid if we value education, if we want our next generation to be intelligent, capable people. Teachers are underpaid and do a lot of non-paid jobs. Teachers act as psychologists, social workers, family counsellors.. Teaching academics is 50% of it.

Makes no difference, the standard has fallen , higher pay won’t solve what’s happening, complete generations of dumb parrot like students who now are teaching or reinforcing what they were taught , we used to be top now third world , see it everyday

Guys, you should disregard all together whatever this ultra-left woke propaganda outlet says.

🤣

Must give it to nurses first.

And there it is. The rest of us are catching up, so they want more.
