An Australian team says a new partnership with a US-based tech company has given their hopes of a successful 'de-extinction' of thylacines a 'giant leap' — and that their goal of seeing a Tasmanian tiger in the wild could happen 'within 10 years'.

Colossal, which lists Australian actors Chris and Liam Hemsworth as "like-minded impact investors", says its "landmark de-extinction project" is the "resurrection" of the woolly mammoth.

"We can then use reproductive technologies such as IVF to turn the cell into a whole living organism." "We think the dunnart could give birth to a baby thylacine and once they are born, you can rear these animals on milk by recreating that artificial pouch environment".It is hoped the project could also help other marsupials, like the koala, which are vulnerable to natural disasters like bushfire, which are becoming more common.

This is the worst type of science imaginable as it’s a researcher more interested in their profile than the potential benefit for the world. We need to focus on the species still here. But I guess the U of M will be happy with the altmetrics which seems to be the mantra now.

🤔 rather than this type of scientific experimentation, better to focus of preventing 100s of living endangered species (fauna and flora) under threat from becoming extinct due to ClimateCrisis landclearance habitatloss Contaminatedrunoff pollution feralpredators etc etc

Absurd. Genetic engineering needs to be saving animal DNA for after our extermination not be adding to it.

♥️♥️♥️

The last time a genetic engineering team came up with something we ended up under ‘mandate’ with a jab that doesn’t vaccinate or immunise. Hilarious. Best wishes & look forward to seeing the ‘lab’ ones first. Dear oh dear...

Incredible science, almost scarily advanced.

But first, the griffin!

Can we just skip straight to the T-Rex? What’s the worst that could happen?
