Govt, ACTU 'agree to disagree' on casuals | Sky News AustraliaIndustrial Relations Minister Christian Porter says the ACTU and the government have “agreed to disagree” on the one million causal workers that will be refused access to the government’s JobKeeper scheme. \n\nIndustrial Relations Minister Christian Porter says the ACTU and the government have “agreed to disagree” on the one million casual workers that will be refused access to the government’s JobKeeper scheme. \nBut the government on Monday shut the door on that proposal, however, they did agree to additional safeguards within the Fair Work Act amendments. \n\nThe Fair Work Commission will take a role in hearing cases of potential wrongdoing by employers under the amendments.\n\nSpeaking to reporters on Tuesday, Mr Porter said many “disagreements” still existed between the parties. \n\n'I think there is going to be an agreement to disagree on casuals. The ACTU’s position, as I understand it, Labor’s is different from the government’s. I think everyone agrees that you have to draw a line somewhere,” he said. \n\n'There is many disagreements that still exist in this but I guess the point I would make in my dealings with the ACTU is that whilst they did not prefer, strongly had a preference against amending the Fair Work Act, they were nevertheless willing to engage in a process that would amend, albeit for a temporary six month period, the Fair Work Act.” cporterwa I predict they will have to amend this. cporterwa That's ok Christian, just don't expect any votes from those that miss out. Lots of anomalies in this scheme. cporterwa They can apply for JobSeeker, like everyone else. Depending how many hours of casual work they had, they might be better off! I'm wondering why the fuss?
