This accident was not a question of 'if' but 'when' considering the disgraceful condition of the track. It seems that Australia is not only incapable of building consistent rail gauges but the competence to build STRAIGHT tracks is totally missing.

We travelled on this train a few month ago and I recall severe jolts (side-ways) on both the Victorian and NSW part of the track. The rail system between Sydney and Melbourne is a national embarrassment and a disgrace for the image of Australia. Some arses need to be kicked.

Third world country

Get on a an aircraft.. it's a thousand times better than this.

Please note tweets on V-line Seymour page about ongoing line faults & delays.

Maybe if we didn’t run trains from 1982 this would not have happened! We are so far behind it’s a embarrassment. xpt melbourne train auspol North Korea have better rail than australia

Our interstate train lines are EMBARRASSING compared to those overseas. We are so backwards with this. So sad for the two lives lost :(

Let's build a road to nowhere to fix that, Uncle Dan!

There was detailment of freight train few week back ago also.

Nothing to surprise, so many customer compliant about the poor condition of tracks and train.

Hooray for metaphors!

hoping everyone is ok

ammarosh94 عندكم أي اشي بصير صح قاعد ؟😂

How bad do things have to get before we shut down the Australian Rail Track Corp. NE lines were a joke, now they're deadly.

400m from my house

Interesting because they've had on-going works around the level crossing in Wallan since mid January.

Carriages look upright and intact, Loco on its side, hope the cab is not crushed.

Very sad

Hope everyone is safe

No surprise......Maintenance on country roads are a disgrace......so cutbacks on rail may be the culprit as well.

We need a Mag-lev. The Chinese will build it for us.

Holy phucking shit

railmaps VolvoB59_1176 oh no!! 😢

Hope all are ok!

FUNDING.

Oh dear, hope everyone is safe

Sydney-to-Melbourne train details near Wallan, north of MelbourneBreaking: Two people have died - one believed to be the driver - after the Sydney to Melbourne XPT train carrying about 150 passengers came off the tracks about 45 kilometres north of Melbourne. So sad Victoria is a state full of corrupt f*cks. Accepting faulty rollingstock. Commissioning half baked signalling systems. Nepotism at the highest levels. I would've sacked the entire railway engineering and management staff for moral turpitude. So sad to hear that xx
