The record for Sydney’s wettest year in history is set to be broken by the end of the week, as a major weather system across Australia’s east coast continues to bring intense rainfall from north Queensland all the way to Tasmania.
The amount is just 64mm short of the current wettest year on record in 1950 that recorded 2194mm across the whole year. Heavy rainfall already recorded on Tuesday night and Wednesday has resulted in several warnings issued for flood-prone areas. Up to 125mm of rain is currently forecast to hit Sydney before Monday morning with both Wednesday and Thursday set to record rain totals of 20mm each.
sarah_keoghan Tim Flannery was paid $10M to tell us something about acid rain, no rain and empty dams across Australia’s East Coast by 2017. Australia would like a refund Tim. We hope you are enjoying your waterfront home.
sarah_keoghan “A land of drought & flooding rains” . . . Calm down! It’s just weather.
sarah_keoghan This is not a 'Major weather system' Its a ClimateChange event.
