Suzanna Martanti is feeling increasingly 'desperate' with every job rejection, but she and others struggling with mental health are using coping strategies to reduce stress and anxiety during the coronavirus pandemic.

Suzanna Martanti has been knocked back from almost 80 jobs since mid-February, and was at one point competing against more than 700 other applicants for a medical receptionist role. There are more applications per job across most industries compared to pre-COVID-19 timesThere remain concerns about whether there's adequate help for the CALD community

She attributes the increased competition to the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. Why is this news?

She is one of 1000s - luckily she is not one of the 100s suicides each week on Melbournd highlighting the minorities doesn't help.

Fake eyebrows and ridiculous finger rings screams annoying employee.

Does she wear that head gear to interviews?

Yes. It's heartbreaking. I went through it in 91 and I'm going through it again. Chin up, keep pushing. The dam will break one day.

With 11%+ unemployment, I think there will be many that feel that way.. young Australians, white Anglo men, aboriginal women, men, women, Muslim, Catholics... you got my point?

Sounds like a catch 🙄. Cries at the smallest things? Here’s a tip ... don’t work in a medical practice; highly stressful environment.

She looks so depressed

It’s everyone, not just Muslim women.

I’ve never seen a story with so many elephants in rooms! (But that mental health counsellor looks mental 😂)

PLEASE ASK MR MORRISON WHAT HE IS DOING ABOUT THE VERY VERY HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN THIS COUNTRY

erwin_renaldi That's nothing. I've applied for 260, 30 interviews incl 2 roles I was the preferred candidate but were cancelled. At least 15 interviews are on hold. I graduated as my university most outstanding student, and have won international awards for my work. Should be first one picked

Ha. Try getting over 300 job apps in and you may a complaint

What a relief they didn’t overtly blame white people 🙄 High unemployment during a pandemic.....news at 11 🤡

Well if she is blaming the Chinese Virus blame the Chinese Government end of story and the wankers that didn't quarantine properly including the Victorian security guards who abused their position.

You idiots, it’s not just migrants suffering. Why does the abc have to put a diversity spin on every story? Can’t it be that Australian are struggling? Bloody racist!

Maybe if we didn't take in so many migrants for our population ponzi scheme there might have been some jobs for some of them

Must be wacism

We love to promote the head scarf don't we aunty

Too many Diverse people demanding inclusion.

Oh no 😳 is Diversity & Inclusion not working for the millions of Diverse world travellers who swarmed to our shores?

Well she got to try as cleaner or garbage collector. May be she can get it. After all no job is small. But of course she doesn’t want that does she.

Doing it tough with her Apple Watch.

Join the club, at least she receives knockbacks, most don’t even get that.

What's the news here?

Maybe needs to change her approach obviously doing something wrong

So 699 other applicants presumably got knocked back from that particular job also. That's 699 more story ideas ABC.

Put her on TheProjectTV That's where everyone who is no good at anything gets a free run.

It must be because Australia is full of racists !!

Welcome to the new normal in jobs as the government cuts back on support.

People with mental health issues should get priority for employment.

Speaking to a HR friend yesterday, Many job applications with large numbers of applicant's go through an algorithm program of sorts. The first wave, many are not seen by human eyes. Plus, most people have lost their jobs this year. There is no work.

Lots feel desperate - why do you always choose a minority to highlight problems that many people face? defundtheABC loonyleft

Does anyone else see the racism in always using non white people for the photos

She already HAS a casual job and a working husband and she wants another job? Looks pretty happy for someone 'unemployed' 🙄

Their looking for help in Lebanon?

Yep same here. Applied to well over a hundred jobs, contacted every recruiter I can find. Crippling anxiety, no confidence in securing work. Just enrolled back in uni but it's a 6 year journey part time.

Hang in there. You will be successful- don’t give up.

Don’t Cry Suzanna, Just put a Banjo on your Knee 🪕🎶🎶🎶🤠👍

Surely there's one at the ABC. She appears to fit all the criteria.

I’m not sure what you are achieving with these stories. Those looking for work see a hopeless situation - so this further damages their mental health. By all means, report unemployment. But daily coverage like this is getting cruel. It will be like this until Covid eases.

Good thing there is plenty of fruit picking jobs coming up.

Anecdotal.. and there is a pandemic on.. but are unaffected shovelling this shit as news.. want more social justice? Disband the abc & redirect the billion dollars to industry incentives.creating jobs and tax revenues. Instead of welfare for woke wankers DefundtheABC

Hard to get a job after studying critical race and gender studies because employer knows they'll spend more time complaining to HR 🤡😂😀

Self entitled people - welcome to the real world!

The Fed govt is failing us at every turn and there should be an unrelenting focus on their corruption but the ABC chooses a story which feeds the hard left narrative of its detractors. I wonder if Ita has been instructed to scuttle the ship so Murdog is the only news source.

Everyone is in the same position. I have a friend looking for receptionist / admin work and she’s said there can be several hundred people applying for each job. She applies for 4 or 5 jobs a day. It’s going to be tough job market for a while, but it will get better eventually.

According to SEEK data from last month, there have been more applications per job across most industries compared to before the start of the pandemic. The is not suprising given that more businesses are closed because of the pandemic than before it started

80? That’s only 2 months worth of JobSearch requirements.

This is why we need an unconditional basic income. People shouldn't have to live in stress because of circumstances beyond their control. If we have a right to life then we have a right to a livable income. auspol UBI

This article... 🤦‍♂️ WTF has being a migrant got to do with anything? Are you suggesting that L4 restrictions are dead fucken easy for white Australian bogans? We’re the other 698 unsuccessful job applicants feeling bright and breezy today? Lockdown hurts everyone. The end.

Islamophobia in action 🤐

If Suzanna is only recently unemployed, she will become used to it, thousands of unemployed people have had exactly the same experience for YEARS, without anyone worrying about their mental health at all.

Victimhood is real! Go fruit picking. Australian farmers need you! Why have many young women become entitled, weak and whiny?

WTF ABC? Most of Victoria is in this position, including those born here who haven’t country shopped for economic opportunity. There wouldn’t be one unemployed Victorian, who wants to work, who doesn’t feel like this. Question the State Gov decisions that put us in this position.

Get yourself onto jobseeker, put your time and effort into growing a great vegie garden and enjoy your life.

Nice watch for an unemployed person.......what a beat up once again from the lying ABC.

Sizanna it is a numbers game. Keep going and you will be successful. It just takes one.

Oh boo fn hoo... try being over 50 and looking for work, where's her mask? 😂

Maybe she should try other fields of work. 'She had been mostly trying for similar jobs due to to her skills'

It’s hard to get a job atm

Victimhood is real! Go fruit picking. Australian farmers need you! How did young Australians become weak and whiny?

no different for other people

Welcome to the jungle.

Are those who have moved here from their Native White Europe doing better such as the ethnic Anglo-Saxons, Germans, Welsh, Dutch, Scottish, Armenians, Irish, Polish etc ?

All the best Suzanna 💖🌺hopefully article will bring you exposure & luck in finding a job just as it did when a story was written about my daughter Sinead. She started work 2 wks ago ! Ignore nasty, replies to your story. auspol nswpol

Pfft there are plenty of jobs. What about those people that go around wiping poles and rubbish bins because the corona might be on them? Thank god for their wipe down, that will last until the next week, when they return. keepingussafe from random pole corona.

'I don't want to talk, even with anyone at home. All I want to do is just be sitting in my room by myself' , well, you are not going to become a medical receptionist if you don't want to talk.

“Mental health counsellor Tigist Kebede welcomed the funding boost, but said some of the money should also be used for more culturally appropriate mental healthcare” Or try treating everybody the same instead

And yet there are still many heartless people out there that insist all unemployed are dole bludgers!! 😩😠😠🤮🤮🤮

Farmers looking for people

Plenty of work picking fruit. Head that way.

As usual the Twitter bile from people, yes many stories like hers and more to come, you can’t highlight them all. If one person gets a job it’s a success.

Indonesia is calling her back.

Aaawww diddums. Many others have gone through the same treatment so why is the ABC picking this particular one?

Farmers concerned a lack of workers will see crops go to waste Jobs Jobs Jobs Fruit picker can get $700+ per week picking

The level of unemployment is a political not an economic decision. The government's responsibility is to ensure everyone has a job if they want one. Not to some fake notion of 'business' Business is a direct result of humans gathering. It's objectives are secondary to human need

But being special, and looking on the upper-crust side of life, particularly with special and accessories I can't afford, it's going to be tough getting that corporate executive position you feel you deserve right away 🤷‍♂️

Let me guess , we need to give special treatment to people based on skin colour . How did that work out for hotel Quarantine in Melbourne ?

Is that Apple watch on her hand? I got a job yet cannot afford one 😭

Maybe if she took the sheets off her head then they'd hire her. WhatIsThisTheDesert? SetYourLocksFree AmericaHasFreedYourHair

Seibold 'paranoid to the back teeth' over Broncos iconBroncos coach Anthony Seibold is feeling an incredible amount of pressure ... over one man in particular. This is a perfect example of someone promoted well above his ability...looked good on paper! kevvieforcoach So Weidler now is a mind reader that will do me. fakenews Seibold needs to go, but Kev will be no better, also a rookie as far as coaching goes & if you look at him coaching qld his team selection is not up to scratch, for one picking Morgan I’m centre, the man is so over rated yet makes the side out of position. Without hard lockdowns 'would Australians prefer 700 infections jumps to 7000' | Sky News AustraliaThe Australian's Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan says he's not sure 'we had to go absolutely as far as Andrews has gone' but that the hard lockdowns are the right approach to addressing the deadly virus. \n\n'What is the alternative, instead of 500, 700 infections a day, would it be better to have 7000 infections a day,' Mr Sheridan told Sky News host Chris Kenny. \n\nHe said the result would mean 'you're not only then condemning a lot of people in aged care homes to dying ... but you're also condemning a lot of health workers to die'.\n\n'In Britain and the United states, hundreds and hundreds of health care workers have died from COVID, that doesn't happen in a flu season,' he said. \n\n'And it would only get worse, rather than get better'. \n\n\n\n
