Education Minister Dan Tehan says the best thing students can do instead of protesting is “either attend university or attend school and learn”. kennyreport

Education Minister Dan Tehan says the best thing students can do instead of protesting is “either attend university or attend school and learn.” His comments come amid plans for widespread student protests this Friday in response to government inaction on climate change.

Mr Tehan argued that we need our students to study now in order to combat climate change in the future. “If we’re going to address climate change, if we’re going to adapt to climate change, we’re going to need all the skills that we can possibly get,” he said. “We need more scientists, we need more engineers, we need more mathematicians,” Mr Tehan continued, to ensure that we "get the right energy mix and that we can keep our economy growing.

Yes students should attend school and governments should be taking action to preserve the environment for future generations... Just saying

You are right mate, the system has obviously not dummed this lot down enough.

Yet a vital part of democracy is the right to peacefully protest. But I guess when it doesn't suit the Governments agenda, then that's a bad thing! Pathetic Australians that voted this morally bankrupt disgusting government!

I agree, school kids belong in school, if they want to hold a rally than do it on saturday

Since I can remember that is exactly what the world has been doing for decades, until this party started which we all know as the no idea full of no hopers Green Party who’s opinions & opinions only not facts are all bullshit what no hopers believe in.

Well it hasn’t worked for Dan. After all that learnin’ he’s still a thick as two short planks. auspol ClimateStrike

Those that want the day off are too dimwitted to realise that. Just proves how bad our education system is.

Learn how to dig coal, just like him. Guess that's working out well for the planet.

Thousands of brainwashed students about to hit the city streets tomorrow.

Protest all you want guys. Australia can't run on renewables alone. Be realistic

WelllDoYou

And im 53yo ... nothing changed just the weather... in winter in Poland winter is just winter

When I was at school, if there was an opportunity to jerk off in town on a Friday with my mates and the teachers smiled benevolently and gave me permission, I’d have gone without hesitation.

Minister tell this to the pro-democracy youth in Hong Kong!

Maybe Dan needs to go back to school

Whats the point of school if there is no future

The education minister should stop buying olympic pools for rich private schools, while public schools cant get leaky roofs and asbestos problems fixed. He should also stick his head back up his arse, rather than advising students against protesting more government delinquincy

That's funny, you still expect everyone to listen to the same people who thought alcohol & smoking tobacco was a good idea.

Agree with the minister, so glad our school doesn’t get involved in this rubbish!

Not surprised that kids take the opportunity for a day off school and a sense of righteousness. Back in the day, I probably would've too. Doesn't mean they have any clue what they're on about. Spoiler: they don't.

Shows what a fool he is all teachers will be on strike so who wit teach them

But if you stay at school, or Uni, you will learn there is a climate crisis and therefore you will want to go out and protest against Government inaction. 🤦‍♀️ ausol

Learning is important for all, including Government dinosaurs. Give it a go to learn as well from the next gen, just as you made your mark against your elder generation. Are you game ?

I told my 14 year old girl that I’d give permission for her to attend if she wrote me a one page essay on why and how she believed the climate was changing & what marching would achieve. She’s decided she’d rather stay at school 🤔

😂😂😂 Don’t like the future leaders demonstrating their democratic rights! Shame

he is right

Cluesless statement Tehan. It's the schools and the universities teaching.this stuff.

Minister Tehan, If your party has done a good job, we wouldn't have to do a climate protest. It's that simple.

Common sense is so uncommon these days.

Wait till Dan finds out the universities have granted permission for their employees to attend the ClimateStrike auspol

The best thing my child can do is experience.

They've learned this dude and his corrupt mates have destroyed the planet and their future.
